Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Product Owner to own the backlog for a team-level squad within a globally distributed product organization. This role is responsible for translating priorities set by the Product Manager/Portfolio Owner into well-defined, sequenced, and shippable work, and partnering closely with engineering to deliver high-value solutions. This role reports into a US-based manager, so strong async communication and comfort working across time zones and cultural context is essential.
Key Responsibilities
● Own and refine the squad-level backlog: write clear user stories, epics, and acceptance criteria that engineers can execute against.
● Partner with your Product Manager/Portfolio Owner to translate roadmap priorities into executable sprint plans, and work with the team to deliver on those plans.
● Support day-to-day Scrum ceremonies (standups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews, and retrospectives) and keep the team unblocked.
● Make sound day-to-day tradeoff calls within your squad's scope, escalating strategic or cross-team tradeoffs appropriately.
● Communicate priorities, roadmap updates, risks, and progress to stakeholders.
● Collaborate with engineering on technical approach and sequencing, including work that spans legacy systems and newer AI-native capabilities.
● Use AI tools as part of your own workflow (spec writing, backlog analysis, QA support, etc.) and help your team do the same.
● Leverage Agile tools such as Azure DevOps (ADO) and Jira.
● Collaborate with technical teams on APIs, integrations, and UI/UX requirements.
● Write SQL queries for analysis and KPI tracking.
Required Skills & Experience
● Takes initiative and ownership, is comfortable working with ambiguity, and brings intellectual curiosity to problem-solving.
● 3-5 years of Product Owner or Product Management experience.
● Bachelor's degree in business, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
● Experience managing product backlogs in Agile environments.
● Strong understanding of Agile and Scrum methodologies.
● Experience with Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar tools.
● Experience operating in an environment with both legacy systems and modern tech, comfortable with process, dependencies, and constraints (not solely startup/greenfield background).
● Moderate AI fluency: hands-on experience using AI tools for product work, and ideally some exposure to building or shipping AI-native features.
● Experience working in a globally distributed team, ideally reporting to or partnering with US-based stakeholders.
● Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
● Knowledge of software development, APIs, integrations, and UX principles.
● Strong SQL and data analysis skills.
Preferred Qualifications
● Experience in Benefits Administration, Healthcare Technology, HR Technology, or related domains.
