and knowledge in analysing long-term climatic data, an understanding of climate
science, climate modeling, data science, and GIS, to join the Climate
Resilience team. The role will focus on supporting projects that advance
India’s heat resilience.
The candidate will analyse large climate and geospatial
datasets, develop climate risk indices, particularly for extreme heat and
monsoon variability, and assist the team with tasks like data mining, data analysis,
and literature reviews. Applicants should have a background in climate
sciences, data science, GIS, atmospheric sciences, environmental science, or
related fields.
Key skills include experience with Python (especially
Xarray), GIS tools, Microsoft Office, and statistical tools. Knowledge of
machine learning and deep learning is a plus.
In addition to the duties and responsibilities below, the
individual should be prepared, as and when necessary, to take on additional
responsibilities.

meteorological data, estimating climatic indices, and carrying out heat risk
assessments for advancing heat resilience.
● Use programming
languages like Python (with libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, and Xarray), tools
like ArcGIS, QGIS, and Google Earth Engine, and platforms like GitHub to
analyze large climate and geospatial datasets and develop detailed climate risk
indices.
● Assist the team in
using CMIP5 and CMIP6 climate models to create local and regional climate
projections by applying techniques like downscaling, bias correction, and zonal
statistics.
● Conduct desktop
research and collect data from structured, semi-structured, and unstructured
sources to improve climate risk assessments.
● Work with GIS
datasets (e.g., NDVI, DEM, elevation, and hydrology networks) using QGIS,
ArcGIS, and Google Earth Engine, sourcing data from platforms like USGS and
ESRI.
● Create GIS
shapefiles for analysis and produce GIS-based maps to illustrate extreme events
and climate variability.
● Support the team by
reviewing literature and contributing to research writing on climate and
spatial analysis.
Other responsibilities
● Help the team and
improve personal skills in strategic communication by writing blogs and opinion
pieces regularly.
● Respond to research
requests from senior researchers, discuss their needs, and prepare summaries
and analyses of information.

Xarray, Pandas, Geopandas, and NumPy.
● Strong understanding
of climate statistics and working with climate projections from global and
regional models, including techniques like downscaling and bias
correction.
● Experience using
Xarray in Python, along with tools like ArcGIS, QGIS, and Google Earth
Engine.
● Good knowledge of
statistical tools like Excel and SPSS and their applications.
