Safety Head - Kolkata location - Leading Transformer Manufacturing Company

Role Purpose

The Head of Safety will spearhead the design, implementation, and oversight of all occupational health, workplace safety, and environmental protocols across company's Kolkata offices and manufacturing plants. This strategic leader will drive a zero-harm safety culture, ensure 100% compliance with statutory labor and factory laws, and minimize operational hazards.

Key Responsibilities

• Safety Leadership: Formulate, upgrade, and implement robust Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies across all plant units.

• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure absolute compliance with the Factories Act, state pollution control board norms, and other statutory safety mandates.

• Risk Mitigation: Direct regular Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) across production floors.

• Incident Investigation: Lead root-cause analysis (RCA) for any near-misses, minor, or major incidents, and implement strict corrective actions.

• Audit Management: Conduct internal safety audits and facilitate external ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) and ISO 14001 (Environmental) certifications.

• Training & Culture: Oversee mandatory safety induction, mock drills, fire safety programs, and specialized training for operating heavy industrial machinery.

• Team Management: Guide, mentor, and evaluate factory safety officers and fire safety teams to maintain high compliance standards.

• EHS Reporting: Prepare and present monthly safety dashboards, accident frequencies, and mitigation metrics to corporate leadership.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: B.E. / B.Tech in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Production) from a recognized university.

• Certification: Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety (ADIS) from a State Technical Board (RLI / CLI) is mandatory.

• Additional Perks: International certifications like NEBOSH IGC or IOSH will be considered a distinct advantage.

• Experience: Minimum 10 - 15 years of core industrial safety experience, with at least 5 years leading safety departments in heavy engineering, steel, towers, or manufacturing units.

• Skills: Proficient in emergency response planning, fire fighting systems, safety software tools, and regional language communication (Bengali, Hindi) for worker-level engagement.

• Leadership: Exceptional problem-solving skills, high emotional intelligence, and a assertive approach to enforcing site safety protocols.
