SAP MM Consultant – Job Description

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced SAP MM Consultant with 8–14 years of hands-on experience in SAP Materials Management. The candidate will be responsible for implementing, configuring, supporting, and optimizing SAP MM processes, working closely with business stakeholders and cross-functional teams.

The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of Procure-to-Pay (P2P), Purchasing, Inventory Management, Material Master, Vendor Master/Business Partner, Invoice Verification, and integration with FI, SD, PP, and WM/EWM.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and participate in SAP MM implementation, rollout, enhancement, and support projects.
  
• Gather business requirements, conduct gap analysis, and translate business needs into SAP solutions.
  
• Configure SAP MM modules including:
  • Purchasing
    
  • Purchase Requisitions and Purchase Orders
    
  • RFQs and Quotation Management
    
  • Release Strategies / Release Procedures
    
  • Inventory Management
    
  • Goods Receipt / Goods Issue
    
  • Stock Transfers and Transfer Postings
    
  • Physical Inventory
    
  • Invoice Verification
    
  • Special Procurement Processes
    
  • Subcontracting
    
  • Consignment
    
  • Service Procurement
    
• Design and implement Procure-to-Pay (P2P) business processes.
  
• Configure and support pricing procedures, account determination, valuation, and automatic postings.
  
• Work on material master, vendor/business partner master, purchasing info records, source lists, and quota arrangements.
  
• Analyze and resolve production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and provide permanent solutions.
  
• Prepare functional specifications for reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, and forms.
  
• Work closely with ABAP developers and technical teams for RICEFW objects.
  
• Perform unit testing, integration testing, regression testing, and support UAT.
  
• Prepare functional documentation, configuration documents, test scripts, and user manuals.
  
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams including SAP FI, SD, PP, WM/EWM, QM, and Ariba where applicable.
  
• Support data migration activities including material, vendor/business partner, and purchasing-related data.
  
• Provide guidance and mentoring to junior SAP MM consultants.
  
• Participate in workshops with business users and provide recommendations for process improvements.
  
• Support cutover, go-live, hypercare, and post-production stabilization activities.
  
• Identify opportunities for process standardization and SAP best-practice adoption.
  

Required Skills

• 8–14 years of SAP MM experience with strong functional expertise.
  
• Strong understanding of end-to-end P2P processes.
  
• Hands-on experience in SAP MM configuration and production support.
  
• Good knowledge of Inventory Management and Logistics Invoice Verification.
  
• Strong understanding of MM-FI integration, particularly account determination and automatic postings.
  
• Working knowledge of integration with SAP SD, PP, WM/EWM, and QM.
  
• Experience with SAP ECC and/or SAP S/4HANA.
  
• Knowledge of S/4HANA procurement processes and simplifications is preferred.
  
• Experience working with business stakeholders and independently managing requirements.
  
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
  
• Ability to work effectively in a global/cross-functional environment.
  

Preferred / Good-to-Have Skills

• SAP S/4HANA Procurement certification.
  
• Experience with SAP Fiori applications.
  
• Exposure to SAP Ariba / Central Procurement.
  
• Experience with SAP EWM or WM integration.
  
• Knowledge of IDocs, APIs, interfaces, and integration concepts.
  
• Experience in SAP MM migration/rollout projects.
  
• Exposure to SAP Activate methodology.
  
• Experience leading small teams or workstreams.
  

Education

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Supply Chain, or a related discipline.
  
• SAP MM certification is an advantage.
  

Senior-Level Expectations for 8–14 Years

For candidates at this experience level, the role should typically include solution ownership and stakeholder management, not just configuration. The consultant should be able to independently handle requirements, design solutions, troubleshoot complex issues, coordinate with technical teams, and guide junior consultants.
