Senior Backend Engineer – 7+ years

Role Overview

Seeking a Senior Backend Engineer with strong expertise in Python, FastAPI, distributed backend systems, and Azure cloud services. This role will build and harden the platform’s API and processing layer that powers ingestion, orchestration, validation, and downstream integration for high-volume document-processing workflows. The ideal candidate brings deep experience building secure, scalable, resilient backend services in event-driven cloud-native architectures.

Key Responsibilities

• 
  

  Design and build backend APIs and microservices using Python and FastAPI for core ATLAS platform capabilities.



• 
  

  Develop event-driven services and integrations across ATLAS processing flows using Azure services such as App Services, Functions, Event Grid, Service Bus, Blob Storage, Cosmos DB, and Key Vault.



• 
  

  Implement secure API design and service-to-service access using Microsoft Entra ID, OAuth2/JWT, managed identities, and RBAC.



• 
  

  Build integrations with persistence layers including Cosmos DB, relational databases, and Blob Storage, with attention to auditability, traceability, and performance.



• 
  

  Containerize, deploy, and support services through Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and production-grade release practices.



• 
  

  Instrument services with strong logging, monitoring, and observability to support performance, troubleshooting, and operational resilience.



• 
  

  Collaborate with frontend, platform, AI, and operations teams to deliver backend capabilities that are reusable, secure, and production-ready.

Required Skills

• 
  

  7+ years of backend engineering experience building production-grade services and APIs.



• 
  

  Strong hands-on expertise in Python and modern API frameworks such as FastAPI.



• 
  

  Experience designing microservices, asynchronous processing, and event-driven backend systems.



• 
  

  Strong experience with Azure backend services and cloud-native deployment patterns.



• 
  

  Solid understanding of API security, identity, access control, and secure secret management.



• 
  

  Hands-on experience with databases, data modeling, and performance tuning for backend services.



• 
  

  Experience with Docker, CI/CD, logging, monitoring, and production support practices.

  Experience building backend systems for enterprise-scale, high-volume platforms.

  Exposure to workflow, orchestration, or document-processing platforms is a plus.
