In Nielsen Media, we are the market leader that drives content ratings across virtually all viewing platforms including local and national TV, streaming, digital advertising, and more.  This role is in Media Platform & Core Services. We heavily leverage open source software and cloud technologies to build a single central platform for managing the entitlements to and delivery of Nielsen Media data to our clients

The Lead Software Engineer is ultimately responsible for delivering technical solutions throughout a project’s development life cycle, from design through post-launch support. This role  is expected to coordinate, support and work with multiple delocalized technical teams in multiple regions. The Lead Software Engineer reports to the Sr. Product Manager to ensure new product launches and existing deployments satisfy our internal and external clients.

• Develop and enrich our platform components by leveraging open source software; drive modernization of core Data Management and Delivery systems.
• Take point on Data Management and Delivery development team activities including solution design, development and deployment, while mentoring other platform team members to increase their technical and soft skills.
• Use your knowledge of open source, cloud (particularly AWS), and devops technologies to help architect new platform products for use across Nielsen’s product portfolio.
• Perform architectural reviews for critical business products to ensure they are properly built for reliability, scalability, and cost optimization.
• Design and implement low-latency networking products.
• Ensure the availability, performance, scalability and security of production systems.
• Build automated tests, monitoring and alerting mechanisms to help assure quality and stability of various services.
• System troubleshooting and problem-solving across the platform.
• Suggest and implement best practices and architecture improvements.
• Implement and lead the team through best in class code automation strategies.
• Drive better cost management through efficient utilization of compute and storage resources.
• Document processes and maintain software development records.

• You have a genuine passion for big data, coding, and absolutely love learning new technologies.  You don’t just want to blindly use platforms and libraries; instead you have a desire to tear them apart and figure out how they work inside.  You love scaling and optimizing and seeing just how far or how fast your projects can go.  You see all of the building blocks in the community as legos and want to use them to build innovative new solutions at a faster pace than ever.

• Multiple years of experience in a DevOps role leading critical projects
• Intensive knowledge of most core DevOps concepts and tools spanning source control, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, monitoring, alerting, and logging
• Extensive proficiency with Java, Python, Scala, and SQL; this includes all aspects from development through to production (build tools, deployment tools, deployment methods, configuration strategies, etc)
• Deep knowledge of AWS Cloud Computing (scalability and optimization)
• Knowledge of orchestration frameworks (e.g. Airflow) and containerization (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
• 
  
• Experience with automation technologies such as Terraform, Gitlab, etc.
• Experience with Big Data (Hive, Spark, Trino, etc.) is a plus
• Scrum Agile development experience
• Fluid in written and spoken English
• Must have a CAN-DO attitude
