The suitable candidate for this role is a Senior Water Engineer specialising in Water and Wastewater Design and Digital Delivery. This role involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across India and New Zealand, with responsibility for leading hydraulic design, technical delivery, and digital engineering outputs for water supply and wastewater (sewerage and drainage) utility projects.
The Senior Water Engineer will take ownership of end-to-end design delivery, from concept development and hydraulic analysis through to detailed design, Civil 3D modelling, drawing production, and preparation of comprehensive design documentation. The role emphasises quality assurance, technical leadership, and delivery of construction-ready solutions aligned with project, client, and regulatory requirements.
1. Engineering & Hydraulic Design
2. Digital Engineering – Civil 3D Modelling & BIM
3. Drawing Production & Design Delivery
4. Design Reports & Documentation
Required Technical and Soft Skills
Demonstrated capability to review, validate, and assure quality of design outputs prepared by junior engineers.
Strong proficiency in interpreting project requirements and translating them into accurate, constructible, and compliant engineering deliverables.
Software Proficiencies
Must Have
AutoCAD Civil 3D (Essential):
Advanced proficiency in modelling, drafting, pipe network design (pressure and gravity), surface creation, alignment and profile generation, and integration with BIM workflows.
GIS Platforms:
Proficient in ArcGIS and QGIS for spatial data analysis, utility mapping, and integration of survey/GIS datasets, including familiarity with New Zealand GIS data sources and council databases.
Microsoft Office Suite:
Word: Preparation of technical reports and design documentation
Excel: Development of calculation sheets, data analysis, and design validation
Good to Have / Additional Tools
Hydraulic Modelling Software (Desirable):
Experience with Bentley SewerGEMS / WaterGEMS or similar tools for hydraulic modelling and network analysis.
AutoCAD Plant 3D / Revit: For BIM coordination and multidisciplinary design environments
Navisworks: For model review, clash detection, and coordination
Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC): For document control and collaborative project delivery
Experience
8 to 16 years of relevant experience in the design and delivery of water supply and wastewater utility infrastructure projects.
Demonstrated experience in the planning, hydraulic design, and detailed delivery of water distribution networks (including transmission mains) and wastewater collection systems (gravity and pressurised), along with associated infrastructure such as pumping stations, reservoirs, and manholes, including preparation of engineering deliverables such as design calculations, Civil 3D models, general arrangement drawings, longitudinal sections, and technical reports, while working on multidisciplinary infrastructure projects with effective coordination across civil, mechanical, and digital delivery teams.
Familiarity with international design standards and codes, preferably New Zealand (NZ) and/or Australian (AU) standards. Experience with other international projects (UK, US, Middle East, etc.) will be considered advantageous.
