Location: Kolkata| Function: Programming | Reports to: Head – Programming –Non -Fiction, Sony AATH


Purpose


The purpose of this role is to drive the creative strategy, content innovation, and programming excellence for the channel’s Non-Fiction portfolio. The incumbent will lead all non-fiction creative programming initiatives with end-to-end accountability for conceptualising, launching, and sustaining high-impact unscripted content. By collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including Programming, OAP, Marketing, and Production, this position ensures the delivery of high-quality, audience-centric non-fiction content that drives viewer engagement and aligns with business objectives to hit ratings, reach, and revenue targets. Additionally, the role is responsible for driving operational efficiency in fast-paced unscripted production cycles, leveraging strong celebrity and talent partnerships, and mentoring team members to build a high-performing creative engine.


Education: Graduate / Post-Graduate in Media, Mass Communication, Film, or related field.


Experience: 10+ years in programming, content creation, or broadcast media, including experience in leading creative teams and delivering high-performing programming content.


Key Responsibilities



  1. Operational Excellence



  • Ensure all masters are prepared and submitted at least 24 hours before the telecast.

  • Monitor production timelines and resolve any bottlenecks proactively.

  • Maintain smooth programming operations by coordinating across production, content, and technical teams.

  • Track operational metrics to ensure consistency and timely delivery across all programming.



  1. Creative Launch & Sustenance



  • Develop innovative content ideas for new show launches and ongoing programming.

  • Collaborate with creative and production teams to ensure high-quality execution.

  • Monitor audience engagement and feedback to refine and enhance content.

  • Maintain distinctiveness and competitive appeal in all programming initiatives.



  1. Partnerships & Talent Collaboration



  • Identify and engage top industry talent to enhance show quality and appeal.

  • Work closely with production teams and partners to improve the performance of existing shows.

  • Coordinate collaborations to ensure creative alignment and timely delivery.

  • Track GRP, reach, and share improvements resulting from talent and partnership initiatives.



  1. Financial & Performance Outcomes



  • Support network/cluster OI, ad revenue, and ratings targets through programming and content strategies.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimise monetisation opportunities.

  • Monitor quarterly GRP/share and revenue performance, implementing corrective actions when needed.

  • Provide insights and reports to management on performance against business targets.

  1. Masters submitted 24 hours before telecast; operational timelines met consistently.

  2. Enhanced audience engagement; quality and distinctiveness of programming.

  3. Show GRP/reach/share improvements; successful collaborations with best talent.

  4. Achievement of quarterly GRP/share and ad revenue targets

  5. Team growth metrics; voluntary attrition <15%; at least one direct report developed to higher functional/strategic capability; participation in BARC learning initiatives.
