Survey Data Review & Assessment |
- Review and critically assess route, topographical and profile survey data (DGPS/Total Station/drone-LiDAR) submitted by survey agencies and EPC contractors for accuracy, completeness and adherence to scope.
- Cross-verify ground/terrain data, cross-sections, crossings (river, road, rail, power line, telecom) and soil investigation inputs against field conditions and standard survey practices.
- Assess deliverables against TSA/scope requirements and applicable survey codes/practices before acceptance for design use.
- Flag incomplete, inconsistent or substandard survey submissions back to the survey agency/EPC for correction and resurvey where needed.
|
Profiling, Tower Spotting & Optimization |
- Review and validate line profile drawings (Section/Plan & Profile) prepared by the survey agency/EPC, ensuring correctness of levels, spans and ground clearance.
- Assess and optimize tower spotting on the approved profile – evaluating span, angle of deviation, ground clearance and soil conditions – to ensure towers are placed at the technically correct and most optimal locations.
- Optimize tower locations to minimize ROW impact, forest land use, number of angle/section towers and overall project cost, in coordination with ROW and Engineering.
- Review and approve re-spotting proposals where towers are shifted due to ROW, forest, technical or geotechnical constraints.
|
Error Identification & Resolution |
- Identify errors, discrepancies or anomalies in survey data, profile drawings and tower schedules submitted by survey agencies/EPC and get them corrected before design freeze.
- Investigate field-reported discrepancies during construction (e.g., tower centre shift, ground level mismatch, span/clearance issues) and determine root cause and corrective action.
- Maintain a log of errors/observations identified, corrective actions taken and closure status for each survey agency/EPC contractor, to support performance review.
- Escalate recurring or high-impact survey quality issues to management and recommend systemic corrective measures.
|
Hands-on Field Survey (As Required) |
- Carry out hands-on field survey/resurvey personally, wherever necessary – including spot-checks, verification of contentious or error-prone stretches, and re-spotting of tower locations.
- Independently operate survey instruments (Total Station, DGPS/RTK-GPS) to validate or re-generate profile/tower-spotting data when agency/EPC deliverables are found unreliable.
- Undertake field survey directly for urgent, disputed or inaccessible stretches where relying solely on the survey agency/EPC would delay decision-making.
- Use hands-on field checks to build ground-truth understanding that strengthens the quality of desk-based review and assessment.
|
Coordination with Engineering, Survey Agencies/EPC and ROW |
- Act as the developer's technical interface with survey agencies and EPC contractors on all matters related to survey, profiling and tower spotting.
- Work closely with the in-house/consultant Design & Engineering team to resolve queries on profile data, tower spotting and route alignment, and to finalize tower schedules.
- Provide finalized, error-free tower locations and profile data to Construction well in advance of the execution front to support foundation and erection planning.
|
Statutory Approvals Support – Forest, Crossings & Section 164 |
- Support preparation of forest approval documentation (survey data, route/tower coordinates, tree enumeration and alignment drawings) required for Stage-I/Stage-II forest clearance applications.
- Prepare and support power line crossing proposals – river, road, rail, highway and existing power/telecom line crossings – with accurate survey/profile data for approval from concerned authorities (Railways, NHAI, PWD, other utilities).
- Support preparation and submission of documentation for Right of Use (RoU)/ROW approval under Section 164 of the Electricity Act, including route/tower survey data, ownership details and notice/publication records required by the licensing authority.
- Coordinate with the ROW, Legal and Regulatory teams to ensure survey/profiling inputs for forest, crossing and Section 164 approvals are accurate, complete and submitted on time to avoid delays to the construction schedule.
- Track status of forest, crossing and Section 164 applications pertaining to survey/profile data and proactively resolve any survey-related queries raised by approving authorities.
|
Survey Data Management & Documentation |
- Maintain a systematic record/MIS of survey and profiling status – data received, reviewed, queries raised and locations finalized – across the project corridor.
- Maintain organized records of profile drawings, tower schedules, coordinates and survey deliverables received from survey agencies/EPC for design and audit reference.
- Prepare periodic status reports on survey/profiling review progress for Project Management and Engineering teams.
|
Quality Management |
- Ensure survey and profiling deliverables from survey agencies/EPC comply with Apraava Energy quality standards and applicable codes/practices before acceptance.
- Drive a robust review/checking process to minimize errors reaching design or construction stage, thereby reducing rework and delays.
- Coordinate with quality consultants, where applicable, and implement recommendations for improving survey and profiling accuracy.
|
HSSE Management |
- Ensure survey agencies/EPC contractors follow Apraava Energy HSSE standards during field survey activities, including safe use of equipment near live lines, crossings and difficult terrain.
- Review field survey plans/method statements from a safety perspective before approving execution.
- Support internal and external HSSE audits/rounds relevant to survey and field activities; ensure timely closure of observations.
- Identify and report HSSE risks arising from survey/profiling field activities and ensure timely mitigation.
|
Team & People Management |
- Guide and mentor junior surveyors/engineers involved in survey review and profiling checks.
- Plan and allocate review/assessment workload across multiple stretches/fronts and survey agencies/EPC contractors as per project priority.
- Build team capability on survey assessment techniques, PLS-CADD/AutoCAD tools and evolving survey technologies (drone/LiDAR).
