Software Engineer III Java fullstack AWS

As a Software Engineer III at JPMorgan Chase within the Consumer & Community Banking Digital Channels, you serve as a seasoned member of an agile team, designing and delivering trusted, market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. You are responsible for implementing critical technology solutions across multiple technical domains and business functions, ensuring they align with and advance the firm’s strategic objectives.

Job responsibilities

•  Design scalable front-end and back-end solutions that align to product outcomes, technical strategy, and enterprise risk expectations.
• Build complex, responsive web applications using React 18 and TypeScript, applying modern patterns for composition, routing, and state/data management.
• Engineer reusable UI systems and component libraries (e.g., Storybook, design tokens, theming) that improve consistency, velocity, and maintainability.
• Optimize user experience and performance by improving Core Web Vitals, bundle size, rendering efficiency, caching behavior, and perceived latency using modern tooling.
• Deliver accessible, WCAG-aligned experiences through semantic HTML, appropriate ARIA usage, keyboard navigation, and practical screen-reader validation.
• Develop production-grade services with Java and Spring Boot using clean architecture, dependency injection, robust configuration, and disciplined error handling.
• Design and integrate APIs with strong contracts (REST/OpenAPI), applying sound practices for versioning, validation, pagination, idempotency, and standardized errors.
• Implement secure coding practices across web and services, addressing common risks (OWASP Top 10) and applying OAuth2/OIDC, CSRF/CORS, and least-privilege authorization patterns.
• Strengthen data and persistence layers by designing schemas, tuning queries, managing migrations (Flyway/Liquibase), and leveraging caching/streaming where appropriate.
• Leverages enterprise-authorized AI coding assist tools within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity across complex deliverables (e.g., code generation/refactoring, unit test creation, documentation), while validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards; contributes learnings and reusable patterns to improve broader team effectiveness.
• Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation.

 Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 3+ years applied experience  
• Hands-on experience delivering software from requirements through design, build, test, and deploy, with a focus on resiliency, maintainability, and security.
• Strong proficiency in modern programming and debugging in an enterprise environment using Java (17/21+) and/or TypeScript.
• Demonstrated front-end engineering capability building complex web applications with React 18, including hooks, component composition, and state/data management patterns.
• Experience building and maintaining reusable UI components and/or design systems with a disciplined CSS approach (e.g., Tailwind, CSS Modules, CSS-in-JS).
• Working knowledge of API design and integration using REST and OpenAPI/Swagger, including versioning, validation, and consistent error contracts.
• Practical secure engineering experience, including OWASP Top 10 awareness and implementing authentication/authorization patterns (e.g., OAuth2/OIDC, JWT/session management).
• Working proficiency in SQL and integrating services with relational databases, including schema design, migrations, and performance considerations.
• Experience operating production systems, including monitoring, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and driving durable corrective actions.
•  Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools within the work environment (e.g., for coding, test creation, troubleshooting, or documentation) with demonstrated ability to critically evaluate, validate, and refine AI-generated outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
• Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; ability to guide peers on safe and effective usage within team practices.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Experience with Next.js and modern rendering strategies (SSR/SSG/ISR) to improve performance and user experience.
• Familiarity with performance analysis tooling (e.g., Lighthouse, WebPageTest, browser profilers) and systematic Core Web Vitals improvement.
• Experience with observability practices (metrics, tracing, structured logging; OpenTelemetry preferred) and on-call/production support readiness.
• Exposure to event-driven architectures and supporting technologies (e.g., Kafka) and/or caching layers (e.g., Redis).
• Working knowledge of container orchestration and platform delivery practices (Kubernetes preferred).
• Familiarity with GraphQL and/or gRPC where appropriate for service-to-service communication.
