This is a managerial leadership role for a technically strong engineering leader who can operate with broad direction, focus on the bigger picture, and drive execution across multiple domains. The ideal candidate combines deep technical experience with people leadership, architectural judgment, delivery rigor, and a strong understanding of payments systems. This role requires business knowledge in the Payments domain, including Zelle, RTP, and FedNow, along with the ability to build software products that are scalable, reliable, maintainable, and aligned to business strategy.

 Key Responsibilities

 1. Team Leadership & India Organization Build-Out

- Lead, grow, and develop a team of engineers and QEs in India supporting the MMC application

- Help establish and scale the India engineering organization, including hiring, onboarding, coaching, and creating a strong engineering culture for U.S. Bank

- Drive career development, technical mentoring, performance management, and succession planning across the team

- Create an accountable, inclusive, and high-performing environment focused on quality, ownership, and continuous improvement

 2. Engineering Delivery & Execution

- Manage under broad direction and objectives, with a focus on business outcomes, delivery quality, and operational stability

- Drive execution of the product roadmap on time and within budget while ensuring security, compliance, and reliability of core systems

- Guide teams toward strong coding practices, solid software design decisions, and high-quality delivery with minimal disruption to production

- Set expectations across the organization and ensure dependencies, risks, and delivery constraints are identified and addressed early

- Promote urgency, prioritization, and thoughtful trade-off decisions aligned to organizational strategy

 3. Technical Leadership & Architecture

- Provide high-level architectural guidance and help teams align solution design to business requirements, enterprise standards, and regulatory needs

- Ensure technical designs are clear, well thought out, and account for dependencies, failure states, maintainability, testability, scalability, and ease of support

- Develop and maintain high-level and detailed architecture designs for complex technology solutions across multiple platforms, frameworks, and languages

- Lead architectural review sessions and technical design discussions across the organization

- Simplify product and technical design where possible to improve speed, resilience, and supportability

 4. Cross-Team Strategy & Stakeholder Partnership

- Partner with business leaders, product managers, architects, and engineering teams in an agile environment to gather requirements and drive execution

- Participate in roadmap discussions and provide feedback to product and business teams based on engineering strategy, technical constraints, and delivery considerations

- Understand adjacent teams' business domains and influence cross-team decisions to deliver business value efficiently

- Communicate technical decisions, architecture strategies, and delivery risks effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

 5. Quality, Operations & Incident Leadership

- Drive a culture of quality, timely code reviews, release readiness, and engineering discipline across the organization

- Coach teams on systematic debugging, problem diagnosis, and effective use of tools for troubleshooting

- Lead incident response as needed and establish processes and tooling that improve issue detection, root-cause analysis, and repeat-issue prevention

- Ensure teams proactively handle risk, change, and ambiguity, escalating concerns early with practical solution options

 Technical Scope

The Senior Software Engineering Manager is expected to bring strong hands-on technical credibility and experience building modern distributed systems. This role will guide teams delivering software products and APIs in a payments ecosystem with high expectations for availability, performance, resiliency, and compliance.

Expected technical experience includes:

- Experience with Kafka, event-driven patterns, and open-source technologies used in modern application development

- Experience with containerization and platform tooling such as Kubernetes, Rancher, Istio, Apigee, Jenkins/CloudBees, and GitLab

- Familiarity with source control management best practices, DevOps principles, and agile software delivery lifecycle practices

- Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues and driving resolution in production environments

 Required Qualifications

- 10 to 12 years of relevant technical experience

- 5 or more years of leading a software engineering team

- Proven experience leading software engineers and offshore teams to deliver complex products with multiple stakeholders

- Experience overseeing integration of new systems and technologies into existing environments

- Experience balancing technical debt, feature delivery, and operational reliability at scale

- Certifications in Java, Spring, Microservices, Cloud, or Azure are a plus
