About this opportunity
The Trade Finance Lab is undergoing a strategic modernization initiative to redesign its infrastructure, architectural foundations, and engineering practices. We are looking for an experienced Solution Architect with strong hands‑on engineering background in Java/J2EE, integration, cloud-native development, DevOps, and proven experience contributing to modernization programmes.
This role will be central to shaping solution design across the Trade Finance ecosystem, defining modern architecture patterns, and guiding engineering teams to build scalable, secure, and future‑ready platforms.
Key Responsibilities
1. Solution Design & Architecture Delivery
- Design end‑to‑end solutions for Trade Finance applications aligned to target architecture and modernization strategy.
- Produce architecture artefacts—solution designs, sequence flows, integration patterns, NFR definitions, deployment blueprints.
- Translate business and functional requirements into scalable, cloud‑ready technical solutions.
- Ensure all solutions comply with Group architecture standards, security guidelines, and regulatory frameworks.
2. Modernization & Technical Enablement
- Support migration from legacy systems towards API‑first, event‑driven, microservices‑based patterns (derived
- Contribute to platform uplift initiatives such as containerization, IaC, observability, automated deployments, and standardization.
- Engage with engineering teams to embed best practices—resilience, DR, performance, scalability, and cost‑efficient design.
3. Collaboration with Product & Engineering Teams
- Work with developers, testers, DevOps engineers, and product owners to ensure solution feasibility and delivery alignment
- Conduct design walkthroughs, participate in PI planning, and provide engineering guidance throughout the development lifecycle.
- Evaluate vendor solutions, participate in PoCs, and assess tools or frameworks required for modernization.
4. Security, Risk & Compliance Alignment
- Ensure solution designs adhere to security‑by‑design principles—identity management, secrets handling, encryption, penetration‑test remediation
- Work with Cyber, Risk, and Security teams to validate controls, risk posture, and adherence to operational processes.
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Expertise
- 8–12 years’ experience in software engineering, solution design, or cloud architecture.
- Strong understanding of modern architecture patterns: API‑first, microservices, event‑driven, domain‑driven design.
- Experience in Java Multithreading, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, Spring, Hibernate / JPA, Reactive Programming (Spring WebFlux),
- Microservice performance tuning & scalable design
- API development & RESTful services
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure/GCP), Kubernetes/OpenShift, containerization, and networking fundamentals
- Good grasp of data flows, messaging, integration patterns, caching, and performance engineering
- Familiarity with IaC (Terraform/Bicep), CI/CD practices, Git‑based workflows, and DevOps tooling.
- Exposure to observability stacks (ELK, Prometheus, Grafana, AppInsights, Splunk) (L40,).
- Expertise in NFR design: performance, scalability, high availability, disaster recovery, observability, cost optimization.
- Background in enterprise security, encryption, secrets management, and zero‑trust models.
Behavioural & Leadership Skills
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with an engineering mindset.
- Ability to engage cross‑functional teams and influence design decisions without formal authority.
- Strong communication skills to articulate architecture choices to both technical and business stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience contributing to modernization or cloud migration programs.
