Requirements
8â10+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA with demonstrated expertise in performance tuning and configuration optimization.
SQL Database Administrator (DBA) to lead performance assessment, tuning, and configuration across our SQL database environments.
Proactively analyze workloads, optimize database performance, enforce best\-practice configurations, and drive remediation initiatives to enhance reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (on\-premises and/or Azure SQL), along with advanced troubleshooting and automation skills, is essential.
Bonus: Experience in regulated industries (e.g., Healthcare and Life Sciences) and high\-availability environments.
Conduct comprehensive database health assessments across instance, database, OS, and storage layers.
Analyze performance baselines and trends using DMVs, Query Store, Extended Events (XEvents), PerfMon, and execution plans.
Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks such as blocking, deadlocks, parameter sniffing, missing or unused indexes, and cardinality estimation issues.
Design, implement, and optimize maintenance strategies (index and statistics maintenance, DBCC CHECKDB, backups, integrity checks).
Evaluate storage and I/O performance (latency, throughput, file placement) and recommend optimization strategies.
Plan and execute capacity sizing and forecasting for growth, performance, and cost optimization, including Azure SQL (DTU/vCore models).
Configure, test, and maintain HA/DR solutions (Always On Availability Groups, Failover Cluster Instances, log shipping, replication) aligned with defined RPO/RTO objectives.
Develop and validate backup and restore strategies; conduct periodic restore drills to ensure SLA compliance.
Enforce database security best practices, including RBAC, least privilege access, encryption at rest/in transit, auditing, and vulnerability assessments.
Implement and enhance monitoring solutions using SQL Server native tools, Azure Monitor/Log Analytics, or third\-party tools (e.g., SentryOne, SolarWinds, Redgate).
Define SLIs/SLOs and build operational dashboards for performance, availability, and capacity management.
Produce detailed assessment reports outlining root causes, prioritized findings, and actionable remediation plans.
Automate routine administrative tasks using T\-SQL, PowerShell, Azure CLI, and SQL Agent jobs.
Maintain runbooks, configuration standards, and architecture documentation.
Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and application teams to embed performance and configuration best practices early in the lifecycle (âshift\-leftâ approach).
Strong understanding of SQL Server engine internals, indexing strategies, statistics, cardinality estimation, memory management, and CPU utilization.
Expertise in instance and database configuration (MAXDOP, Cost Threshold for Parallelism, TempDB optimization, memory grants, parallelism settings).
