The Sr./Academic Specialist (Literacy) will be part of a central academic team and will provide technical and academic leadership to assigned projects, including state-level academic support. The role requires close collaboration with state academic teams, partner organizations, and government institutions to strengthen foundational and primary-grade literacy outcomes.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Academic & Technical Leadership
Provide academic guidance and mentoring to state academic teams on literacy for foundational and primary grades.
Develop a deep understanding of organizational instructional frameworks and ensure alignment of state programs with approved pedagogical approaches.
Collaborate with state teams to provide technical support to SCERTs, Samagra Shiksha, and other government bodies for effective FLN implementation
2. Curriculum & Material Development
Review and analyze state language curriculum, textbooks, teaching–learning materials (TLMs), and training resources to identify academic and pedagogical gaps
Lead and manage instructional design and material development processes, including teacher guides, workbooks, TLMs, and resource packs, in collaboration with state teams
3. Documentation & Knowledge Management
Develop academic frameworks, guidelines, presentations, and policy briefs for internal and external use
Contribute to documentation of field learnings, best practices, and impact case studies
Coordinate cross-team academic initiatives such as video content development, blended learning courses, and mentoring tools
Develop short research concept notes and conduct focused academic studies related to program components
4. Capacity Building & Professional Development
Design training modules, workshop plans, and learning resources for professional development of teachers, mentors, and internal teams
Facilitate academic sessions and workshops for teachers, mentors, internal teams, and government officials
Support the design and delivery of online and blended teacher professional development programs
5. Monitoring, Planning & Coordination
Participate in monthly and quarterly academic review meetings and track progress of academic deliverables
Support proposal development, donor reporting, and academic planning exercises as required
Analyze field-level and program data to generate insights and present findings to relevant teams
6. Representation & Liaison
Represent the organization in meetings, consultations, and technical discussions with government bodies, donors, and academic partners
7. Other Responsibilities
Undertake field visits for classroom observations, mentoring, and training facilitation
Perform any other academic responsibilities assigned by the supervisor
Educational Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
Graduation or equivalent degree required; a Masters degree in Education or a related field is preferred
Minimum 8 years of relevant professional experience in curriculum design, teacher training, or academic resource development in Foundational Literacy / Primary Education
Strong conceptual understanding of foundational learning, NEP 2020, NIPUN Bharat Mission, and the National Curriculum Framework (NCF)
High proficiency in Hindi and English (reading, writing, speaking); strong academic writing skills in Hindi are essential
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet-based tools, and Hindi typing
