Job Description - SRE Manager

We are seeking a highly experienced DevOps Engineering Manager (12+ years) to lead and scale operational teams:\n\nTier\u20111/2 Engineering Support Team responsible for multi-technology ticket handling including Jenkins, JFrog, Gradle etc.\n\nDevOps/SRE Team focused on Azure, Kubernetes, Bash/Python automation, observability, and cloud-native platforms.\n\nThe leader will be accountable for MTTR, SLA governance, SRE best practices, DevOps platform stability, operational excellence, and end\u2011to\u2011end incident, problem and change management. \n\n\nThis role requires a hands-on leader with strong technical depth, people management strength, and the ability to drive enterprise-wide DevOps maturity.\n\n# \n\n# Key Responsibilities\n\n * CI/CD \u0026 DevOps Platform Engineering\n\n\n\nOwn and operate enterprise CI/CD and DevOps platforms (see Technical Skills for tool details). Standardize and continuously improve build systems and deployment workflows. Ensure platform reliability, SRE-driven availability, and scalability across global R\u0026D teams. Drive improvements leveraging automation, cloud-native patterns, and observability.\n\nTier\u20111/2 Engineering Support Management\n\nLead a team managing 24\u00d76 Tier\u20111/2 tickets spanning multiple technologies and engineering functions. Ensure accurate triage, categorization, prioritization, and SLA adherence. Maintain MTTR, response time SLAs, quality of resolution, and ticket hygiene. Reduce operational noise through automation, clear scope definitions, and knowledge base maturity.\n\nGenesis DevOps \u0026 SRE Team Management\n\nLead the Genesis DevOps team supporting Azure Cloud infrastructure, reliability engineering, and cloud automation (see Technical Skills for tool details). Own incident management, root cause analysis (RCA), preventive actions, change management, and release planning. Drive SRE practices: error budgets, SLIs/SLOs, on-call readiness, runbooks, and service health dashboards.\n\nAutomation, Self\u2011Service \u0026 GenAI Enablement\n\nDrive automation-first culture across support teams and CI/CD platforms. Implement self-service capabilities for build, deploy, access requests, monitoring and DevOps operations. Architect and expand GenAI/ChatOps solutions, enabling natural language querying of Jira, Confluence, CI/CD, and operational data. Reduce manual dependency through workflow orchestration and AI-enabled troubleshooting.\n\nOperational Excellence \u0026 Governance\n\nMaintain and improve key KPIs: MTTR, first contact resolution, deployment success rates, platform uptime, ticket backlog, and SRE scorecards. Lead structured incident reviews, impact assessments, problem management, and reliability-driven improvements. Partner with Infrastructure, Cloud, Security, ALM, and Product Engineering teams. Own audits, compliance, documentation hygiene, and DR processes.\n\n# \n\n# Technical Skills\n\n * CI/CD \u0026 DevOps Tools: Jenkins, Git, Bitbucket, GitLab, SonarQube, Nexus, Artifactory\n * Containers \u0026 Cloud: Kubernetes, Docker, Azure\n * Automation \u0026 Scripting: Python, Shell, YAML, Ansible, Terraform\n * Observability \u0026 Quality: Prometheus, Nagios, Zabbix, Black Duck\n * ALM \u0026 Collaboration: Jira, Confluence, Agile/Scrum\n * AI \u0026 Automation: GenAI ChatOps, workflow orchestration\n\n\n\nPeople Leadership\n\n * Manage DevOps engineers, SREs, and Tier\u20111/2 support personnel.\n * Drive performance management, coaching, upskilling plans, and role development.\n * Establish structured onboarding, learning paths, and DevOps/SRE competency frameworks.\n * Create a culture of ownership, collaboration, customer focus, and continuous improvement.\n\n\n\nProblem Solving\n\n * Identify and resolves technical, operational and organizational problems \n\n\n\nRequired Skills \u0026 Experience\n\n * 12+ years in DevOps/SRE, including 4+ years leading teams.\n * Strong expertise in:\n * CI/CD: Jenkins, Azure DevOps or any similar.\n * Cloud \u0026 Containers: Azure, Kubernetes, Docker, Helm, Rancher.\n * Scripting \u0026 IaC: Python, Bash, YAML, Ansible, Terraform.\n * Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Zabbix, Nagios.\n * ALM \u0026 Collaboration: Jira, Confluence; Agile/Scrum.\n * Proven experience running production-critical CI/CD systems and operational support teams.\n * Deep understanding of SRE metrics, incident management, and automation-first DevOps culture.\n * Customer-oriented mindset with proven ability to communicate effectively with external stakeholders, manage escalations professionally, and handle complex cross-functional situations with confidence.\n\n\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\n * Experience building ChatOps or GenAI-based DevOps automation.\n * Exposure to large-scale global R\u0026D environments.\n * Knowledge of configuration management and centralized logging platforms.\n * Strong analytical, communication, and executive stakeholder management skills.\n * Background in software development or application engineering is a strong advantage, enabling deeper empathy with R\u0026D teams and faster problem diagnosis.\n\n\n\n## Qualifications\n\n### Education:\n\nBachelor\u0027s Degree\n\n### Skills\n\n### Certifications:\n\n### Languages:\n\n### Years of Experience:\n\n7 - 10 Years\n\n### Work Experience:\n\n## Additional Information\n\n### \n\n### Shift:\n\nDay (India)\n\n### \n\n### Travel:\n\nYes, 10% of the Time\n\n### \n\n### Relocation Eligible:\n\nYes\n\n### Referral Payment Plan:\n\nEmployee Referral (Enhanced)\n\nApplied Materials is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to diversity in the workplace.
