This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Engineer, PHP Laravel based in India.
This role goes beyond writing code—it is designed for an experienced engineer who wants to influence technical direction, elevate engineering standards, and contribute to solving complex client challenges at scale. You will work in a highly collaborative, global product engineering environment where innovation, quality, and continuous improvement are central to everything delivered. The position involves designing and building robust backend systems using PHP and Laravel, while also guiding teammates and shaping architectural decisions. You will engage closely with stakeholders to understand real-world problems and translate them into scalable technical solutions. In addition to hands-on development, you will play a key role in mentoring engineers and improving engineering practices across teams. The environment is dynamic, fast-paced, and non-hierarchical, with strong emphasis on ownership and impact. Accountabilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using PHP and Laravel
- Architect and implement robust, high-performance APIs and microservices to support complex business requirements
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into technical solutions
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to engineers within the team
- Drive engineering best practices including code quality, testing, performance optimization, and clean architecture
- Identify system bottlenecks and implement improvements for scalability, reliability, and efficiency
- Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to long-term technical strategy
- Support production systems, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high system availability
Requirements:
- Strong experience (7+ years preferred) in backend development with PHP and Laravel framework
- Deep understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and software architecture principles
- Hands-on experience building scalable APIs, microservices, and distributed systems
- Strong knowledge of databases (SQL/NoSQL), performance tuning, and data modeling
- Experience with cloud platforms and modern DevOps practices is a plus
- Proven ability to mentor engineers and lead technical initiatives within teams
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in complex, fast-paced environments
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Passion for writing clean, maintainable, and high-quality code
