Surface Treatment Lead - Fabrication

Surface Treatment Lead will oversee, coordinate, and optimize all finishing and surface treatment operations, including
powder coating, liquid painting, plating, anodizing, pickling, and passivation. This role is responsible for ensuring that all
finished products meet stringent aesthetic, anti -corrosion, and adhesion standards while maintaining high efficiency,
safety, and regulatory compliance. with a focus on achieving targeted results across both in -plant incoming supplier
components within the manufacturing vertical. This role plays a pivotal part in establishing, implementing, and improving
Surface treatment systems, controls, and assurance practices in a growing organization.
The position offers a strong platform to introduce industry best practices, drive quality excellence, and build a robust
culture. The incumbent is empowered to represent the company during domestic and international customer
engagements and is entrusted with strategic decision -making authority in executing quality objectives

1. Production & Process Management

Supervise daily surface treatment operations (pre -treatment, coating, curing, and final inspection) to meet
production schedules.

Monitor and maintain optimal process parameters, including chemical bath concentrations, pH levels,
temperature, bake oven cycles, and spray gun settings.

Troubleshoot finishing defects (e.g., orange peel, pinholes, poor adhesion, uneven thickness) and implement
immediate corrective actions.

Manage inventory levels for paint, powder, chemicals, and masking materials to prevent production downtime.

2. Quality Assurance & Compliance

Ensure all finished products strictly adhere to customer specifications and international standards (e.g., ISO, ASTM,
Qualicoat, or specific standards).

Oversee testing protocols, including Dry Film Thickness (DFT) checks, cross -hatch adhesion tests, gloss meter
readings, and salt spray testing.

Maintain accurate logs of chemical titration, bath maintenance, and quality test results for audit readiness.

Ensure strict compliance with environmental regulations regarding chemical disposal, wastewater treatment, and
hazardous waste management.

3. Team Leadership & Safety

Lead, train, and mentor a team of coating operators, painters, and chemical technicians.

Enforce the strict use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols (e.g., handling
hazardous chemicals, ventilation safety).

Conduct regular safety toolbox talks and maintain a clean, organized work environment (5S implementation).

4. Continuous Improvement (Lean Manufacturing)

Identify opportunities to reduce chemical waste, paint consumption, and energy usage in curing ovens.

Optimize masking techniques and racking layouts to maximize throughput and minimize rework rates.

Collaborate with the Maintenance team to schedule preventive maintenance for spray booths, conveyors, and
chemical tanks.

5. Audit & Compliance Management
Facilitate customer audits and lead internal and supplier audits, ensuring timely closure of non -conformities and
continual compliance with applicable standards.

6. Data Analysis & Continuous Improvement
Conduct periodic reviews of quality metrics, perform data -driven analysis, and drive continuous improvement
initiatives using structured problem -solving techniques (e.g., 5 Why, Fishbone, Root Cause Analysis).

7. Training & Capability Building
Identify skill gaps and organize training programs to standardize systems, improve performance, and build technical
capabilities across the team.

Education & Experience:

• Educational Background: Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Metallurgy, Mechanical

Engineering, or a related technical field.

• Experience: 5+ years of hands -on experience in industrial surface treatment (powder coating or liquid painting

lines), with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.

Technical Skills:

• Deep understanding of multi -stage chemical pre -treatment processes (degreasing, phosphating, nano -ceramic

coating, etc.).

• Expertise in powder coating electrostatic application or industrial liquid spray systems.

• Familiarity with sheet metal substrates (Cold Rolled Steel, Galvanized Iron, Aluminium, Stainless Steel) and their

specific treatment requirements.

Soft Skills:

• Strong troubleshooting abilities, 

• Eye for detail, excellent team management, and basic computer proficiency (MS Excel, ERP systems).

Preferred Certifications(Good To Have):

• Certification in Paint/Coating Technology.

• Training in Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or Six Sigma methodologies.

• Knowledge of ETP (Effluent Treatment Plant) operations.
