Job Description - Tech Lead MS SQL and Oracle DBA Engineer

Job Description

Microsoft SQL Server

  • Strong hands-on experience with SQL Server versions 2008 through 2022 including installation, configuration, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with SQL Server High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions:
    • Failover Cluster Instances (FCI)
    • Always On Availability Groups (multi-node setups)
    • Transactional log shipping, database mirroring, and replication
  • Administration of Azure SQL PaaS services (Azure SQL Database, SQL Managed Instances).
  • Managing SQL Server on Azure IaaS (VM-based) deployments.
  • Performing database refreshes from Production to Development/Test environments.
  • Database migrations between IaaS and PaaS environments.
  • User and access management.
  • Backup & Recovery Strategy: Designing and validating backup/restore strategies (full, differential, log backups).
  • Security & Compliance: Managing encryption (TDE), auditing, and security hardening.
  • Monitoring & Alerts: Setting up and managing SQL Server monitoring tools (native or third-party).
  • Capacity Planning: Monitoring storage and performance trends for proactive scaling.
  • Maintaining detailed SOPs, runbooks, and configuration documentation
  • Automating routine DBA tasks to reduce manual effort
  • Working closely with application and infrastructure teams to support releases, schema changes, and performance testing
  • Handling Sev1/Sev2 incidents with root cause analysis and reporting

Oracle Database

  • Installation and administration of Oracle 19c or higher (Grid Infrastructure and RDBMS) on RHEL 9 or later.
  • Configuring and managing ASM (Automatic Storage Management) on raw storage with redundancy and multipathing (using udev rules or ASMLib).
  • Setting up and maintaining Oracle RAC (Real Application Clusters) with ASM on raw storage.
  • Configuring and managing RMAN backups using RMAN catalog integrated with OEM 13c.
  • Installing, configuring, and administering Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) 13c, including agents and OMS Middleware.
  • Managing OEM incident rules, notification setup, and alerting.
  • Regular patching of OEM OMS & agents.
  • Quarterly patching of Oracle environments (Grid Infrastructure and RDBMS homes).
  • Troubleshooting Oracle performance issues including:
    • Application slowness
    • Disk latency
    • SQL query tuning & index optimization
    • Identifying fragmentation
    • Memory tuning (SGA/PGA)
  • Performing upgrades of Oracle GI, RDBMS, and OEM OMS/agents to latest versions.
  • Managing Oracle schema refreshes, users, roles, and profiles.
  • User access management.
  • Security & Compliance: Implementing auditing, encryption, and database hardening best practices.
  • Monitoring & Health Checks: Regular database health monitoring (using OEM or scripts).
  • Storage & Capacity Planning: Proactive space management for ASM disk groups and tablespaces, forecasting growth for scalability.
  • Backup & Recovery Drills: Performing and validating disaster recovery exercises.
  • Maintaining detailed SOPs, runbooks, and configuration documentation
  • Automating routine DBA tasks to reduce manual effort.
  • Working closely with application and infrastructure teams to support releases, schema changes, and performance testing
  • Handling Sev1/Sev2 incidents with root cause analysis and reporting

DevOps & Automation

  • Experience with version control and CI/CD tools:
    • Git
    • Ansible
    • Puppet
    • Terraform (Azure and On-Premises)
  • Scripting and automation:
    • PowerShell
    • Bash
    • T-SQL

Operating Systems

  • Windows Server 2012 and later
  • Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS)
