Test Engineer (UFT)

To build an engineering or QA team capable of managing, configuring, and executing automated testing using OpenText ALM Quality Center, ALM Octane, and UFT One, your resources will need a specific blend of test automation skills, DevOps pipeline knowledge, and test management expertise.

The essential skill set can be broken down into three core pillars:

1. Test Automation Core (UFT One)

Since UFT One is the engine that executes the automation, engineers must have strong scripting and framework architecture skills:

• VBScript Proficiency: UFT One relies primarily on VBScript for advanced customization, descriptive programming, and custom function libraries.

• Object Repository Management: Deep understanding of Shared Object Repositories, object identification, and configuring Object Identification Rules or Smart Identification.

• Descriptive Programming: Ability to write scripts that interact with application objects dynamically without relying solely on the object repository.

• Framework Design: Experience designing and maintaining Data-Driven, Keyword-Driven, or Hybrid automation frameworks using UFT Excel Data Tables or external databases.

• AI & Multi-Platform Testing: Familiarity with UFT’s modern AI-driven object identification capabilities for cross-browser testing and mobile automation (via OpenText Digital Lab).

  Key Responsibilities
•       Execute automated regression test scenarios  
•       Analyze test results, identify failures, perform initial triage, and document defects.
•       Coordinate with functional and technical teams to investigate and resolve test failures.
•       Support regression cycles and project-specific testing activities.
•       Prepare and maintain test data required for regression execution.
•       Participate in defect triage, retesting, and closure activities.
•       Track testing progress and provide daily/weekly status updates.
•       Perform dry runs and validate automated scenarios.
•       Maintain testing artifacts in tools such as UFTand qTest

Required Skills
•       Hands-on experience with Micro Focus UFT/QTP with 1 to 4 years of experience.
•       Strong understanding of Regression Testing.
•       Experience with SAP applications and integrated enterprise systems.
•       Knowledge of Test Management tools such as qTest, and Jira.
•       Ability to analyze test results and troubleshoot automation failures.
•       Strong defect management and reporting skills.
•       Good communication and stakeholder coordination skills
