Job Description - Travelling Storyteller



Ignite a love for reading among children in partner schools, nurture the reading habit, and create lifelong learners using the BLPS method - through storytelling, activities, and games around the books in the recommended booklist. 


Outcomes:

In the first 3 months:

  • Read and prepare for classroom engagement -

    • 11 BLPS activity books

    • 28 LBLS picture books

    • 10 Ms Moochie books

    • 50 recommended books from the BLPS list

  • Perform 12 storytelling performances in office from the prescribed list

  • Clock at least 30 storytelling days in BLPS client schools in and outside Chennai

  • Be the BLPS champion for 10 client schools

    • Manage the relationship with the teachers and the management

    • Take active interest and initiative in making the program work for all kids in the school

    • Make sure that process is followed, progress is maintained, and that reporting is completed so that the program runs smoothly.

  • Write 2 blog pieces for the Multistory blog on various topics.

  • Write 1 in-depth case study on a single topic

  • Share learnings within the team on a weekly basis.

In the next 9 months:

  • Become a storytelling guru and master at least one storytelling technique (e.g.: puppetry, instrument, quilt, mime, etc)

  • Perform in office atleast once in two weeks

  • Clock at least 90 storytelling days in BLPS client schools in and outside Chennai

  • Be the BLPS champion for 10 client schools

    • Manage the relationship with the teachers and the management

    • Take active interest and initiative in making the program work for all kids in the school. 

  • Write 18 blog pieces for the Multistory blog on various topics

  • Write 3 in-depth case study on a single topic

  • Share learnings within the team on a weekly basis

  • Create 6 videos of your storytelling to share with client schools

  • Co-organise 6 Biblios 1-day literature festivals 

 

Requirements

  • 0 - 3 years work experience

  • Graduate in any degree

  • Tools/Skills: Excel, Word, Powerpoint

  • Soft skills:

    • Fluent English speaker with writing skills 

    • Research mindset and documentation skills

    • Must love books and stories, and reading

    • Must want to work with children / must definitely not hate children

    • Loves to travel and learn about local culture

    • Ability to learn
