WordPress Engineer (Fully-Remote) - between 3200-3600 USD/mo

Location: Remote (Asia/US/Europe)
Commitment: Full-time, ongoing B2B-style contract (ongoing 1099 style contract)

In partnership with a global digital engineering organization, YourCode is currently seeking an
experienced, Mid-level WordPress Engineer to join a remote engineering team. The person will
play a key role in building custom solutions, solving technical challenges, and expanding their
expertise across modern web development practices. The person will contribute to the
development of enterprise-level WordPress platforms, working alongside senior engineers,
designers, and project teams to deliver high-quality digital experiences.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
➔ Developing and maintaining custom WordPress themes, plugins, templates, and features
using modern development practices;
➔ Working confidently with WordPress Core concepts, including actions, filters,
WP_Query, template hierarchy, rewrite rules, cron jobs, and REST APIs;
➔ Building custom functionality using post types, taxonomies, shortcodes, widgets, menus,
and structured content workflows;
➔ Debugging and troubleshooting WordPress issues by analysing code, logs, and system
behaviour rather than relying solely on third-party plugins;
➔ Integrating external APIs, data sources, and third-party services into WordPress solutions;
➔ Supporting Gutenberg block development and work with tools such as ACF and custom
blocks where required;
➔ Converting design concepts from tools such as Figma or Sketch into responsive,
high-quality user interfaces;
➔ Developing frontend components using HTML5, CSS3, SCSS, JavaScript (ES6+), and
modern responsive development techniques;
➔ Ensuring cross-browser compatibility, accessibility considerations, and strong frontend
performance;
➔ Writing clean, secure, maintainable code while following WordPress coding standards
and engineering best practices;

➔ Performing basic performance optimisation, including improving database queries,
caching approaches, and frontend assets;
➔ Collaborating with QA teams to test features, resolve issues, and support smooth releases
and with project managers, designers, and senior engineers to deliver work effectively;

 

KEY REQUIREMENTS
➔ 5+ years of professional experience in WordPress development;
➔ Strong understanding of WordPress architecture, themes, plugins, hooks, filters, and the
WordPress request lifecycle;
➔ Solid PHP experience, including PHP 7/8 fundamentals, object-oriented programming,
debugging, and backend problem-solving;
➔ Experience developing custom WordPress solutions without relying heavily on plugins;
➔ Strong frontend skills with HTML5, CSS3, SCSS, JavaScript (ES6+), jQuery, and
responsive UI development;
➔ Understanding of MySQL databases, queries, and basic optimisation techniques;
➔ Experience working with REST APIs, JSON, and third-party integrations;
➔ Good knowledge of Git workflows, branching strategies, and pull request processes;
➔ Ability to troubleshoot issues through structured investigation and debugging techniques;
➔ Strong command of English;
