Job Description - Head Retail Growth

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head Retail Growth to oversee our bread business for Modern Trade operations to maintain and scale in Bombay, Pune, Bangalore and Delhi. General trade distribution exposure is a plus.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for the food industry, particularly in the realm of short shelf-life goods (bread, milk), and a proven track record of driving sales and managing retail operations effectively.

As a part of the core team, you will be responsible for the company’s growth and be instrumental in making decisions. You will have the opportunity for driving the success of the business and will work alongside a young and mission-driven team. You will work alongside and report directly to the CEO, and work closely with the Management Team.

Responsibilities:

Retail Strategy Development:

  • Develop and implement retail strategies specifically tailored to the store formats, including product placement, pricing strategies, and promotional and marketing campaigns.

Sales Management:

  • Drive sales growth by effectively managing inventory, analyzing sales data, identifying trends, and implementing strategies to maximize revenue and minimize wastages and returns (RTV).
  • Handling existing Modern Trade accounts (Reliance, Star Bazaar, Namdharis, Natures Basket, etc.)
  • Opening untapped accounts.

Distribution:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with bread suppliers or aggressively scale with the company’s existing distribution set-up. Negotiate favorable terms to ensure quality products are consistently available to customers.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead and motivate retail team to deliver exceptional customer service, maintain a clean and organized retail environment, and uphold company standards. You will have a team of managers reporting into you in Bombay, Pune, Bangalore and Delhi.

Marketing and Promotion:

  • Collaborate with marketing teams to develop and execute marketing campaigns, promotions, and events to increase brand awareness at point of sales.
  • Manage on ground promoters with the help of the promoter’s manager.
  • Drive aggressive sampling at point of sales.

Financial Management:

  • Monitor and manage budgets, expenses, and profitability for the bread division, ensuring targets are met or exceeded.

Experience Required:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in similar field.
  • Must have prior experience in an FMCG organization – milk, bread or short shelf-life products (fresh category)

  • Quick learner, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, maintain focus, and adapt to a variety of challenges.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong sense of time organization and urgency.
  • Able to work independently and within a team.
  • Strong knowledge of excel. Data driven.
  • Fast-paced and versatile – strong bias for action.
  • Highly organized – ability to drive people and projects to measurable outcomes.
  • Experience planning and leading strategic initiatives.
  • Experience in setting up and scaling processes while bringing structure to ambiguity.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Do whatever-it-takes’ attitude to be successful.
