Job Description - Intern - Embedded Systems Robotic Power Tools
About Origin
Origin (previously 10xConstruction) is building general-purpose autonomous robots for US construction to tackle rising costs, safety risks, and labour shortages. Our modular, multi-trade platform combines purpose-built hardware with real-time site intelligence to navigate complex environments and execute tasks with precision. Trained in high-fidelity simulation and already deployed on live sites, our robots deliver 5x faster execution, 250%+ margin expansion, and significant cost savings. Join India’s most talent-dense robotics team consisting of individuals from IITs, Stanford, UCLA, etc.
About the role
The Engineering Intern role is a rigorous, hands-on opportunity to work on the cutting edge of construction robotics. Your primary mission is to be the vanguard of our hardware integration: tearing down tools, mapping their circuits, and writing the foundational code to test them. We expect strong technical fundamentals and a fearless approach to hardware.
Key Responsibilities
Teardown & Reverse Engineering:
Completely disassemble off-the-shelf power tools, documenting wiring diagrams, motor types, and trigger logic.
Probe live circuits to map voltage levels, PWM signals, and safety cut-offs.
Rapid Prototyping & Code:
Write C/C++ test scripts on microcontrollers (e.g., STM32, Arduino) to simulate tool triggers and read basic sensor outputs.
Hand-solder prototype circuits and wire harnesses to connect tools to our test rigs.
Build automated testing jigs to cycle the power tools and measure their degradation over time.
Support Operations:
Assist the engineering team in analyzing logs from field deployments to identify tool failures.
Maintain the hardware lab's inventory of electronic components and tools.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Robotics.
Solid C/C++ Skills: You must be able to write functional code to control basic hardware peripherals.
Fearless Tinkerer: You should have a history of taking apart appliances, building 3D printers, or modifying hardware.
Basic Electronics: Understanding of Ohms law, voltage dividers, pull-up resistors, and how to use a multimeter.
High agency and strong attention to detail in documenting your teardowns.
Preferred Experiences
Multiple micro-controller projects with various sensors/actuators.
For apprentice/Intern : This is a six-month contract-to-hire position, with potential for longer-term opportunities depending on your contributions and interests. We’re excited to work with motivated individuals who are eager to support real-world robot development and grow alongside us.
