Contract Status:   This is a permanent role, 4.5 days per week
Reporting to:       The Assistant Manager and CEO
Remuneration:     Competitive salary commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications

Derg Credit Union Limited is a community based credit union in East Clare that serves approximately 7,500 Members and manages €33 million in assets. Derg Credit Union operates two offices, one in Scariff and one in Killaloe.  We are seeking to recruit a Credit Control /Member Services Officer.  The vacancy would ideally suit an individual with experience of working in a credit union or similar financial services environment with experience in the areas of credit underwriting and/or credit control. This role is primarily based in our Scariff branch with the successful candidate being required to also work in our Killaloe branch.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out a range of operational and administrative duties that will contribute to the effective running of the day-to-day operations of the credit union. The Credit Control/Member Services Officer will work as part of the Member Services team and will implement effective credit control decisions and plans under the guidance and direction of the Credit Union Assistant Manager and CEO.

Main Responsibilities:

The Credit Control/Member Services Officer’s main responsibilities will be:

  • To provide a quality service to members
  • Dealing with front line and back-office administration functions, including filing, scanning, data input and payment allocation.
  • Processing transactions on the Credit Union system at the front counter.
  • Accurately and diligently handle cash, reconcile balances, and account for any inconsistencies
  • Dealing with member queries to the highest levels of service across diverse areas such as advising of credit union products, services etc.
  • Ensure compliance with existing and new systems & controls, and policies & procedures necessary, as outlined by the Risk, Compliance, MLCO & DPO, the Internal Audit Function and the Management Team.
  • Identifying accounts for special attention based on agreed criteria as set out in the credit control policy/procedures
  • Complying with the operational requirements of the credit control process
  • Assessing, developing, implementing, monitoring and reviewing the credit control processes and procedures in the credit union
  • Preparing monthly credit control reports
  • Promptly and professionally engage with members via post/ phone/ email/ electronic systems.
  • Undertake relevant training as deemed necessary by the management team
  • Complete other duties as required by the management team

 

Attributes, experience and qualifications

The successful candidate must have the following attributes, experience, and qualifications: 

  • Previous credit union or financial services experience is desirable (but not essential)
  • Be member service-focused and deliver an excellent member service experience. Have the ability to communicate with members to quickly identify problems and propose solutions and be able to adapt your approach based on the member's needs and circumstances.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and a team player
  • Excellent administration skills and a strong compliance ethos
  • Cash handling experience and ability to problem solve and deal with issues as they arise
  • Strong IT skills, particularly in the use of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • An appreciation and an awareness of the credit union ethos
  • Will be required to achieve a minimum APA in Loans on commencement (if they do not currently hold this qualification).
  • Proficiency in the English language is a requirement.
  • Travel will be required between our branches the successful candidate would need a full clean driving license and access to a vehicle. 

The successful candidate will be required to satisfy the minimum competency requirements as set out in the Central Bank Guidelines, (QFA)/APA in Loans/Pathways CU Diploma/ACCUP). The Credit Union will provide financial support for the successful candidate to obtain this qualification if they do not have it currently.Closing date for application on or before the Friday 17th May 2024
