Unijobs is currently expanding the panel of Exam Invigilators for our client, the University of Galway for their satelite medical academies located in Sligo, Castlebar and Letterkenny. Exam Invigilation is seasonal, ad hoc work by its nature.
Person specification:
Experience of working/studying in higher education environment or second level education environment is desirable. Other valuable experience includes customer service, working with the public and administration.
Specific Skills or Knowledge:
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to deal with difficult or urgent situations and take direction / instruction
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to deal with stressful situations, stressed or anxious students while maintaining a calm presence
- Excellent communication skills - a high standard of spoken English is essential, as all communication with candidates in the examination halls is verbal
- IT literate with the ability to communicate via email and log onto a dedicated website to manage timesheets
Duties:
- Punctuality is essential
- Setting out examination papers and stationery, equipment prior to the examination in accordance with strict procedures
- Discreet and respectful of confidentiality
- Assisting students prior to the start of examinations by directing them to their seats and advising them about possessions permitted in examination venues
- Ensuring compliance with the regulations on the conduct of examinations
- Ensuring a calm and comfortable environment in the examination hall
- Invigilating during examinations and reporting queries raised by students
- Checking attendance during examinations
- Verifying student details with student photo ID card
- Escorting students from venues during the examinations as required
- Supervising students departing examination venues, ensuring that equipment or stationery is not removed from the venue without authorisation and ensuring that students vacate the venue in an orderly and quiet manner
- Collecting and collating scripts at the end of the examination in strict accordance with procedures
- Assisting with any situation which may arise in the exam hall, e.g. a student becomes ill or in the event of an exam hall evacuation
- Please note that invigilating can be physically demanding
Essential Requirements:
- Must have a high standard of spoken English as all communication with candidates in the examination hall is verbal
- Demonstrate flexibility, availability and cooperation
- Must have a basic level of computer literacy
- Attendance at required training sessions is mandatory to be considered eligible to work.
- Successful completion of Garda Vetting / Police Clearance process
Desirable Requirements:
- Availability for the entire duration of the exam schedule is desirable
- Experience with scribing is desirable
- Experience of working with students who require extra support or exam accommodations
