Intellectual Disability Care Assistant (support worker)

Part time + Full time permanent & SPC contracts.

Location: Dublin Ireland

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an Intellectual Disability Care Assistant (Support worker) to join our committed and dedicated team.

The ID Care Assistant, supports people to live their best life through person centred support. The role focus on providing meaningful experiences and skills development for individuals supported, respecting will and preference. Key to this role is the ability to support people to connect with their community and foster positive social roles.

About Cheeverstown:  a voluntary organisation that provides a wide range of residential, respite and day services to almost 400 adults with an intellectual disability in Templeogue and throughout various community locations in South Dublin and Kildare.

 

Role Description :

The overall purpose of the Support Worker role is to provide care and support through a person-centred approach which promotes the person's development and growth and participation in their local communities.

Candidates must be highly motivated, creative and experienced, with a passion for engaging with the people we support on a daily basis. In order to promote and support community integration for the individuals supported by Cheeverstown.

The role of Support Worker is significant in a person's life. The work is rewarding, varied and interesting. 

 

Eligibility criteria

A FETAC/QQI Level 5 Major Award in Social Care/ Healthcare or relevant qualification- all 8 modules completed.

A minimum of 3 years' previous experience supporting people with Intellectual Disabilities and Autism.

Possess a full clean driver's license and willingness to drive as part of the role.

Values that correspond with Cheeverstown's values. 

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including good listening skills.

A person-centered approach to the provision of supports, including an understanding of the individual needs and abilities of each person.

Flexibility and ability to respond to changing needs and situations.

Openness to providing supports across a variety of activities. 

Commitment and dedication to enhancing the lives of people with intellectual disability and autism.

Ability to work as a member of a team.

Good IT and administrative skills.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Plan and deliver supports that are person-centered, which will enable people to have full and meaningful lives.

Respond to individual needs, interests and desires in planning and delivering supports.

Support people to access community-based services and opportunities, enabling people to develop relationships and roles to ensure people are included and valued in their own communities.

Work to maximise opportunities for people to meet their potential.

Please note:  All job offers are subject to two successful references, qualifications, ongoing Garda Vetting and a satisfactory pre-employment medical. Salary will be paid at the Care assistant grade on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales, depending on qualifications and experience.
