The Opportunity We are now seeking a Senior Engineer to join our Operations Development and Compliance function.
As Senior Engineer you will support the Operations Development and Compliance Team in ensuring that it fulfills its objective to deliver technical and commercial expertise and manage change effectively in the Transformation and Operations Office, particularly in the area of Grid Code and European Codes. These codes govern the operation, maintenance and development of the transmission system as well as setting out minimum technical requirements that must be met by users to connect to and operation on the transmission system . You will work with the team in areas including multi-disciplined analysis of technical and commercial problems, propose solutions, processes and methodologies, as well as prepare presentations and reports for internal and external stakeholder engagement. We will look to you to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and effectively communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience. You will develop policy, processes and procedures for the implementation of changes arising from grid code and/or European codes to ensure compliance across the wider business Most importantly, you will have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, while also being able to define and guide own work under minimal supervision.

The Team
The Operations Office is central to the delivery of our primary role – the operation, development and enhancement of the power system and the wholesale electricity market. The Office is also responsible for the sustainable implementation of transmission system and market development to meet the future needs of all users of electricity.
The Operations, Development and Compliance function is responsible for planning, programme delivery and change readiness for operations. Creating a culture of transformation whilst maintaining operational resilience, through planning, operational readiness and delivery is central to this role. About you
Successful candidates will have the following:

  • Engineering degree or equivalent, with a minimum of 4 years post qualification experience in the electricity industry, especially system operations or markets.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical power systems and awareness of energy targets and ambitions for decarbonisation of the energy sector.
  • Ability to deliver medium/large projects.
  • Excellent organisational skills and strong track record of delivery
  • Experience in a multidisciplinary team and excellent qualitative and quantitative analytical abilities, coupled with the ability to make reasoned judgements based on available information in a changing and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to conceive and introduce innovative ideas.
  • Ability to translate policy and concepts into rules, codes and standards and vice versa.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work effectively as part of a team, capable of delivering shared goals with internal and external stakeholders through open dialogue, while also being able to define and guide own work under minimal supervision.
  • Passionate, engaging with a drive and enthusiasm to deliver on the company vision and strategy.
