Role Purpose
As ICT Systems Engineer you will be responsible for the engineering activities on a specific construction project. The activities associated with the project will vary and will be agreed with the Project Manager on an ongoing basis. You will co-ordinate the technical design with the onsite installation through to the successful commissioning ensuring that the Kirby Group vision, mission & values are fulfilled.



Key Responsibilities of the ICT Systems Engineer:
· Manage and maintain the data center ICT infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
· Design, implement, and troubleshoot communication protocols such as Modbus, BACnet, OPC UA, etc.
· Oversee passive network management systems, including rack design and patching activities.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and execute ICT strategies aligned with project goals.
· Provide technical support and resolution for data center ICT-related issues.
· Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
· Stay abreast of facility , corporate , security network and recommend innovative solutions for continuous improvement.



ICT Systems Engineer Special Systems Responsibilities
In conjunction with your project team, you will be responsible for the execution of various stages of a project as follows:



Fire Alarm Systems:

  • Design the data center’s fire alarm system, ensuring compliance with fire safety regulations and standards.
  • Design and test fire alarm components, including detectors, alarms, control panels, and notification devices. This includes developing detailed IFC (Issued for Construction) drawings to accurately depict the layout and installation specifications of the fire alarm system.
  • Develop comprehensive test scripts and procedures to verify the proper functioning of the fire alarm system. These test scripts will be used during system commissioning and regular testing to ensure that all components operate as intended and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular inspections, testing, and maintenance of fire alarm equipment to ensure proper functionality. This includes conducting functional tests, sensitivity tests, and alarm verification tests to confirm that the system operates reliably in case of fire.
  • Coordinate with local authorities and fire department personnel for system inspections and approvals. This involves liaising with regulatory agencies to obtain necessary permits and certifications for the installation and operation of the fire alarm system.
  • Respond to fire alarm activations, investigate the cause, and implement corrective actions as needed. This includes coordinating with emergency response teams and facility personnel to ensure a prompt and effective response to fire incidents.
  • Stay updated on advancements in fire alarm technology and industry best practices to continuously improve the effectiveness and reliability of the fire alarm system.



Security Systems:
· Design the data center’s security system, including access control, surveillance cameras, and intrusion detection systems.
· Design and configure security system components to ensure the protection of sensitive data and assets. This includes developing detailed IFC (Issued for Construction) drawings and specifications for the installation and integration of security system components.
· Develop comprehensive test scripts and procedures to verify the proper functioning of security system components. These test scripts will be used during system commissioning and regular testing to ensure that all components operate as intended and meet regulatory requirements.
· Oversee security network management to ensure the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of security system data. This involves implementing network segmentation, firewalls, and encryption to protect against unauthorized access and cyber threats.
· Design and manage the server and headend infrastructure for the security system, including the installation and configuration of servers, storage devices, and headend equipment. This includes ensuring the scalability, redundancy, and performance of server and headend systems to support the security system’s operational requirements.
· Conduct regular inspections, testing, and maintenance of security system equipment to ensure proper functionality. This includes conducting functional tests, camera alignment tests, and access control system audits to verify system performance and compliance with regulatory standards.
· Coordinate with facility security personnel and IT teams to integrate security systems with other data center infrastructure. This includes collaborating on network design, access control policies, and incident response procedures to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive security posture.
· Stay informed about emerging security threats and industry trends to enhance data center security measures. This includes participating in security forums, attending training sessions, and obtaining relevant certifications to stay abreast of the latest developments in security technology and practices.



Lighting Control Systems:
· Design the data center’s lighting control system to ensure adequate illumination and energy efficiency.
· Design, and configure lighting control components, such as sensors, dimmers, and timers, to optimize lighting levels and minimize energy consumption. This includes incorporating DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) and KNX technologies for advanced lighting control and automation.
· Monitor lighting system performance and conduct regular inspections to identify and address maintenance issues. This includes integrating DALI and KNX devices for centralized monitoring and control of lighting zones and fixtures.
· Implement lighting control strategies, such as daylight harvesting and occupancy sensing, to maximize energy savings. This involves programming DALI and KNX controllers to adjust lighting levels based on natural light levels and occupancy patterns.
· Integrate lighting control system with building automation systems for seamless operation and interoperability. This includes configuring DALI and KNX gateways to communicate with other building systems, such as HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) and security systems, for coordinated energy management and occupancy comfort.
· Stay updated on advancements in lighting technology and industry best practices for efficient lighting design and operation. This includes participating in training sessions, webinars, and industry conferences to learn about new DALI and KNX products and applications.
· Collaborate with facility management and sustainability teams to achieve energy conservation goals and regulatory compliance. This includes analyzing lighting energy consumption data and recommending upgrades or retrofits to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
· Conduct periodic assessments and audits of the lighting control system to identify opportunities for optimization and enhancement. This includes evaluating DALI and KNX compatibility with existing lighting infrastructure and recommending retrofit solutions to modernize outdated systems.



Necessary requirement of the ICT Systems Engineer


· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
· Proven experience as a Data Center ICT Engineer, preferably in a [industry/niche] environment.
· In-depth knowledge of communication protocols such as Modbus, BACnet, OPC UA, etc.
· Strong understanding of passive network management systems, rack design, and patching.
· Ability to troubleshoot complex ICT issues and implement effective solutions.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Relevant certifications in lighting design, energy management, or building automation (e.g., DALI Certified Professional, KNX Partner) will be an advantage

· Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, RCDD) will be an advantage.





Desired competencies / special role requirements

  • Proven experience in managing fire alarm, security & lighting control systems preferably in a Data Center or Commercial Environment.
  • In-depth knowledge in the following;
    • Fire alarm system technologies, including detectors, control panels, and notification devices.
    • Security system technologies, including access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection systems.
    • Lighting control technologies, including DALI and KNX, and their application in energy-efficient lighting design.
  • Strong understanding in the following;
    • Fire safety regulations and standards, including NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) codes and standards.
    • Network security principles and best practices, including firewalls, encryption, and intrusion prevention systems.
    • Electrical and lighting principles, including lighting fixture types, lamp technologies, and lighting control strategies.
  • Proficiency in developing IFC (Issued for Construction) drawings and test scripts for fire alarm system installation and testing.
  • Proficiency in programming and configuring lighting control systems and controllers, such as DALI gateways and KNX actuators.
  • Proficiency in server and headend infrastructure design and management, including experience with server hardware, operating systems, and storage solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and regulatory agencies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex fire alarm system issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Relevant certifications in fire alarm system design, installation, and testing (e.g., NICET Fire Alarm Systems Level II) will be an advantage.
