Job Description - Network Development Manager, BERE Engineering

Job ID: 2613831 | Amazon Development Centre Ireland Limited

The AWS Network enables the global operation of tens of thousands of applications across hundreds of thousands of servers around the world. The AWS Networking organization develops and operates the network platform for all of Amazon, including its e-commerce products and Cloud Computing solutions. This platform is industry-leading for its efficiency, throughput, scalability, reliability and intelligence. The network is fundamental to the success of Amazon.com and hundreds of thousands of AWS Customers. As a Network Development Manager for the Border and Backbone Network Engineering team in AWS Networking, you will own the design, scalability and performance of the AWS global backbone network that interconnects AWS Regions and Points of Presence. Your job is to lead a team of 8+ highly skilled Network Development Engineers and deliver solutions that are always available, never constrain customers, continually reduce cost and provide low and consistent latency. You will leverage your skills in strategy, network design and planning, capacity management, project management, recruiting and team development to build a high performing team that delivers an exceptional customer experience. Your work will delight our customers and disrupt the networking industry. This opportunity sits within our Border Network Engineering organization where the team is responsible for designing the networks connecting Amazon directly to the outside world (including the Internet, peers, and external customers), evolving the global backbone that interconnects our Regions as well as partnering with our internal customers. Engineers in this organization define routing policy, design and implement Traffic Engineering solutions, as well as architect the hardware platforms and network design to support internal and external connectivity. We move terabits of traffic in and out of our networks each day and are responsible for the ingress and egress points of traffic entering and leaving Amazon as well as the entirety of all internal and customer traffic that rides our global backbone. Engineers on this team make day-to-day and strategic decisions that carry a significant amount of responsibility and impact. Responsibilities

Together, you and your leadership team will decide on the projects that best support your team’s mission. You will have the resources and time necessary to understand, scope, and deliver these solutions. The primary area of responsibility you and your team will have is to design ahead of customer or technology needs, always predicting and solving for problems that have not yet occurred. This takes the form of creating and defending High Level Design (HLD) documents, working with vendors or internal stakeholders to influence technology roadmaps, constructing and testing your solutions, and providing support to the teams that will deploy and operate these designs. Our teams also serve as technical escalation points in support of our very talented operations teams. We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations: Dublin, D, IRL
