Analytical Chemist

We have a new opportunity for an Analytical Chemist to join our team here in Cork.

The facility in Cork is a standalone specialised analytical laboratory to support centralised testing of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), finished products, raw materials and excipients on behalf of GSK Global Supply Chain sites worldwide.  The laboratory has a broad range of analytical capabilities including LC-MS, GC-MS, ICP, AA, LC, GC, IC and particle size. The Analytical Chemist will be required to perform routine and investigational analytical testing of materials in line with the lab targets and customer expectations. You will partake in the review and approval of analytical data and samples, review and approve SOP’s, analytical and safety reports.

In this role you will

  • Perform analytical method development, validation and transfer

  • Be a subject matter expert for a subset laboratory techniques and processes

  • Perform routine QC testing in compliance with registered details and pharmacopeial requirements

  • Perform investigative analysis to support troubleshooting and root cause investigations in support of customer sites across the supply chain

  • Support the review and approval of completed testing

  • Partake and sometimes lead laboratory investigations and root cause analysis

  • Ensure all activities are completed in line with current GMP, Data Integrity and Safety standards

  • Support the ongoing implementation of quality, compliance and safety standards (internal audits, risk assessments etc.)

  • Support the development and implementation of lean standards to drive operational efficiency within the laboratory

  • Support the training and capability build of fellow analysts

Qualifications & Skills:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Relevant science degree, preferably in chemistry or a demonstrated track record in the pharmaceutical industry in a technical focused quality role

  • Experience in regulated pharmaceutical quality laboratory

  • Proficient in a range of analytical techniques

  • Excellent analytical problem solving skills

  • Proven ability to work under own initiative and as part of a team to meet targets

  • Has an understanding and experience of analytical testing of APIs, excipients and raw materials, and the associated analytical techniques including, but not limited to HPLC, LC-MS, GC, ICP, particle size testing and pharmacopeial.

  • Has an understanding of method validation and transfer requirements.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • MSc or PhD in Chemistry or equivalent and/or an extensive demonstrated track record in the pharmaceutical industry in a technical focused quality role.
