Job Description - Senior Electrical Maintenance Engineer

NeoDyne is a leading Irish and UK Electrical and Industrial Engineering company supplying innovative solutions and services to the Data Centre and Energy sectors, including large-scale CCGT solutions, CHP with island mode and critical power standby generators. The company is 25 years old and employs over 170 staff across 5 locations.

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Maintenance Engineer, to be based in an Energy Centre plant in a hyperscale Data Centre in Dublin. The Energy Centre is providing both Prime and Standby Power to the Data Centre, using a combination of Gas Turbines, Steam Turbines (in combined cycle), and Diesel Gensets for black starting. You will be responsible for electrical plant on site, including electrical aspects of the main rotating plant equipment, ensuring the energy centre plant operates at 99% availability or above for the client.

Responsibilities/Duties

The Electrical Maintenance Engineer will oversee planned maintenance, coordinate with the maintenance planner, and respond to emergency events during normal work hours and out of hours when on-call. The Electrical Maintenance Engineer will act as an SME (Subject Matter Expert) for all equipment on site reporting to the site's Plant Manager, interacting with on-site Operations Technicians and third-party vendors. The Electrical Maintenance Engineer will work closely with the Plant Manager on operational planning while also looking for ways to help reduce operational costs for the facilities, improve operational processes and will provide support to on-site Operations Technicians in their role.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Being involved in the final commissioning stage and start-up of all plant equipment on site.
  • Being the technical expert on site in relation to design standards, codes of practice and legislation, responsible for writing specifications and developing minor plant modifications, always ensuring process safety standards are maintained.
  • Working with the wider Engineering Team to plan and execute outages and preventative maintenance activities, ensuring they are within the time, quality, and budget requirements.
  • Being a point of contact for escalations for all electrical equipment related issues.
  • Assisting Operations in root cause analysis of equipment onsite and reviewing all reports from both on-site Technicians and third-party vendors.
  • Identifying and examining measures to improve the reliability, efficiency, and performance of the plant proactively, and present recommendations to Senior Management
  • Executing and coordinating site electrical projects safely, within budget, and without unplanned incidents.
  • Supporting the management of the Long-Term Service Agreements (LTSA's).
  • Regularly reviewing all relevant Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) outage related reports, identifying findings/issues, and planning any future corrective actions.
  • Ensuring preventative maintenance schedules and risk registers are maintained, managed, and clearly communicated as required.
  • Maintaining the site CMMS and recording all historical works undertaken.
  • Writing accurate and comprehensive maintenance reports, using data from the CMMS system along with findings.
  • Working with the Plant Manager in developing and creating standard/emergency operating procedures (SOP's/EOP's) for all switching activities.
  • Leading the team on critical switching activities, up to MV (Medium Voltage) switchgear, coordinating all switching activities on-site in the safest manner.
  • Being an ambassador for site safety, implementing safe working procedures and practices for all members of staff on site.
  • Ensuring that all employees and contractors under your control maintain proper standards in relation to our safety rules, are suitably trained and follow safe working practices.
  • Supervising 3rd party subcontracts on all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities.
  • Responding to out of hours events (when required), secondary on call system (SOC).
  • Ensuring compliance with all site quality procedures, implementing a quality management system and continuous improvement programs.
  • Contributing to ongoing and future development of ISO standards for the plant.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Third level qualification in Electrical Engineering or similar.
  • At least 3 years' experience in a maintenance, engineering, or commissioning environment in a Power Station, Datacentre (or similar), preferably with CCGT assets.
  • Experience of being involved in the planning and/or execution of plant outages.
  • Experience in managing vendors/contractors, competent in health & safety standards.
  • Experience carrying out HV/MV switching and developing switching plans.
  • Familiarity with Gas Turbine and/or Steam Turbine plant
  • Familiarity with DCS and/or SCADA systems
  • Experience using CMMS systems for maintenance planning would be desirable but not essential.
  • Experience in commissioning and/or troubleshooting electrical control & protection systems would be desireable.
  • Experience of procuring and managing contracts, preferably in a CCGT power station environment would be desirable but not essential.
