The Opportunity

We have recently established a new team devoted to client consultations. Some of our clients operate in the medi-aesthetic industry, and we aim to customise our product to better suit their needs. Our goal is to provide salons with a product that supports them throughout the consultation process, from the initial client discussion to delivering the consultation, service, and tracking future progress with that client. This product will have multiple use cases across various platforms, including web and mobile. Understanding these use cases and what works well for our clients in a busy salon environment will be crucial to delivering a solution that meets their needs. We are seeking a skilled product designer to join our team and help us bring this product to life.

Each team at Phorest consists of a designer, product manager, and lead engineer who work together to determine what "good" means for their team and product. As a designer on this team, you will have the autonomy and control to shape the product vision and make a significant impact on it. You will also be supported by the product design team, which is a small group of highly skilled designers working across other teams. We meet daily to discuss our work, collaborate and ensure we maintain a consistent client experience across all products.

What we're looking for
  • You have hands-on experience working in a product engineering environment and have closely collaborated with an engineering team to ensure customer needs are met.

  • You feel comfortable engaging with customers, testing prototypes, and iterating on designs until you're confident that customers will be satisfied with the solutions. We're not just building websites, but solutions that people depend on every minute to run their business.

  • You're comfortable with the responsibility of designing new features, from the initial discovery phase to shipping.

  • You enjoy challenging assumptions. While Phorest has a wealth of industry experience to draw from, you will still want to validate ideas with our customers, many of whom are right on our doorstep or accessible through our very active community.

  • As a member of your team, you will be responsible for championing design and demonstrating how your designs, if implemented, will provide the solution our clients are seeking. This will require compromises, changes, and more, but ultimately you will need to take ownership of your ideas and be accountable for delivering them to clients. But don't worry, you will have fellow designers and teammates to offer help and advice along the way.

  • Through prototyping, you aim to have a real impact on determining the product roadmap by testing assumptions and ideas.

What skills you need to work with the team

  • We are looking for someone with at least 3 years of experience in a product design role. You should have worked with an engineering team before to create software applications that people use every day.

  • You should be comfortable working closely with Product Managers and Developers to understand the problems we're trying to tackle.

  • You should have a strong understanding of information architecture, user experience, interaction, and visual design for both web and mobile.

  • Your previous work should demonstrate a well-defined visual design taste and a strong eye for detail.

  • You should also have experience designing for multiple platforms and screen sizes, and be able to use Figma for prototyping and storytelling.

  • You don't need to know how to code but you should have a good grasp of web technologies and their abilities, as understanding their limitations is key.

  • Fluent English is essential, as you will need to present your work and communicate your design solutions to both internal and external stakeholders.

  • While experience with motion or illustration is not required, it would be beneficial.

Benefits
  • Your wellbeing is important to us - we provide private healthcare, an employee assistance program and a free online GP service (WebDoc).

  • As part of our Financial Wellbeing, we provide competitive Compensation, an Employee Share Purchase Scheme, Pension, Life Assurance, and Income Protection.

  • We help you travel by providing a bike to work scheme as well as tax saver transport tickets.

  • We care for your family and provide Enhanced Maternity and Paternity benefits.

  • We grow our own timber! We provide a great learning environment including an extensive onboarding program.

  • Career development is important to us. We even have our own in-house Learning and Development/Business coach and many online resources including LinkedIn learning.

  • We don’t believe in formal dress codes. We prefer casual things.
