Project Engineer

Our Renewable Energy Business Unit currently has a need for a Project Engineer on a permanent basis. This role will be based in Newbridge and will report to the Senior Project Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for to provide technical and project management expertise in the identification, development, and on-site delivery of Development projects and to assist in the development of new commercial opportunities for the PowerGen business unit and wider Group.

The main duties and responsibilities of the role will include the following:

  • Scope, plan and co-ordinate activities on assigned work packages to successfully deliver required outputs. Apply a recognised project management approach to develop scopes, schedules, budgets and resource plans for own areas of responsibility and assist in the development of team programmes;
  • Lead the preparation of technical specifications and tender packs for procurement of all goods and services required by the project in accordance with company policy and Irish and EU legislative requirements. Drive the delivery of technical and specialist inputs required to evaluate key project contract tenders (e.g. Owners Engineer, Civil & Electrical Balance of Plant). Administer assigned project contracts in accordance the contract terms;
  • Display a high level of technical knowledge and be highly proficient in problem solving using software to analyse and appraise key technical inputs and assumptions to project financial models. Ensure preliminary and any detailed design work, required complies with applicable design standards, health and safety regulations, environmental policies and all other applicable polices and statutory requirements;
  • Demonstrate a high level of people management skills to deliver the required outcomes across a broad range of technical disciplines (e.g. engineering, legal, financial). Oversee the delivery of work by external contractors to the required standards and specifications and administer assigned contracts in accordance the contract terms. Work collaboratively within the wider Renewable Energy team to ensure key deliverables are met against programme;
  • Have a passion for renewable energy and power generation together with the desire to constantly develop new skills. Display a highly flexible approach to working on other high priority projects where specific project milestones or objectives require input at short notice. Work independently across multiple projects prioritising key tasks through excellent personal time management;
  • Liaise and co-ordinate key stakeholders within Bord na Móna and with external service providers and stakeholders. Ensure liaison with all key external stakeholders as appropriate to aid the delivery of various licences and permits. Exhibit strong reporting and presentation skills to keep key stakeholder appraised of key information in a timely manor;
  • All employees are expected to co-operate fully with all provisions taken by the company for ensuring Health and Safety, and Welfare of co-employees and members of the public using the premises;
  • Proactively participate in the Performance Management process to ensure delivery of own, and the wider team’s, objectives;

The Person:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualification, skills, knowledge and attributes:

  • Honours Degree in Technical discipline (NFQ 8), recognised Project Management qualification an advantage;
  • 3-5 years of relevant industry experience; Competency across a broad range of professional engineer skills must be demonstrated;
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply project management methods, to oversee delivery of technical work and to comply with health & safety and environmental legislation and regulations are required for this role;
  • Excellent technical appraisal, report writing and communications skills are essential; 
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Arcmap, MS Word, MS Excel and MS Project;
