Job Description

The Role: In this role you will manage and coordinate the construction activities for Elgin Energy’s project pipeline.
This is a newly created opportunity with Elgin Energy as we are growing our Construction Management services team. You will establish sound CDM standards, systems, and procedures for Elgin Energy’s construction activities as well as manage and report on project construction milestones, budgets, cash flows and programme at a portfolio level. You will have the opportunity to manage the recruitment and co-ordination of Construction Management teams and co-ordinate with the wider Construction Management team to enhance the development and delivery of Elgin Energy’s project pipeline to commercial operations by providing guidance throughout the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases. To be successful in the role you will have competency and experience in the construction management of renewable energy portfolios, the ability to manage relationships with multiple stakeholders effectively, the ability to work off your own initiative, be commercially astute, process driven and have competency in building a construction management team.
 
What you will do:

• Take overall ownership of the construction stage project pipeline at a portfolio level for budget, program, and reporting.
• Co-ordinate and manage close working relationships with your internal team, external contractors, consultants, suppliers, and other relevant stakeholders throughout the construction process.
• Proactively identify and solve problems as they arise, taking preventative measures to avoid risks to the project schedule and budget. Manage and report on deviations from project schedules, budgets, or scope at portfolio level.
• Lead the development of existing construction management processes and the creation of new processes to align with best-in-class CDM standards and norms.
• Provide technical advice to the senior management team to ensure all construction management factors during the construction process are appropriately considered and risk assessed and are in compliance with Construction, Health & Safety and Grid Code standards and legislation.
• Support the development of tender documentation and review, in conjunction with the wider Elgin team, contractor designs, processes and commercial proposals.
• Support the negotiation of efficient and cost-effective contracts for project delivery where required.
• Influence and lead the development and growth of the Construction Management team.

Your profile

What you will need:

• Bachelor’s degree in civil/mechanical/electrical/Energy Engineering or related discipline.
• 12+ years’ experience working in renewable energy.
• Proven track record of construction management and experience in the construction of large-scale Solar PV plants is essential.
• Evidence of successfully managing multiple project portfolios to demanding deadlines
• Strong technical knowledge of all relevant Construction and Health & Safety standards and regulations across the UK and Ireland
• Knowledge of the AC and DC electrical design of solar PV plants, energy storage and grid connection methodologies.
• Strong commercial, technical and safety conscious approach to risk vs reward decision making.
• Proficient in communication, resource management and the use of software, particularly Microsoft Office suite.
• Valid driver's license for UK & Ireland.

In 2021, Elgin Energy secured financing with Berenberg Green Energy Fund for the development of solar PV projects totalling 1.36GW in the UK and Ireland and also raised £25 million via Focus Capital Partners to fund its growth strategy across its core markets. In 2020, the company partnered, in separate transactions, with both Foresight Group and Metka-EGN in relation to two portfolios to deliver a total of 276MW of UK solar development projects and was successful with two Irish solar projects in Ireland’s first solar auction, RESS-1 – Renewable Energy Support Scheme (RESS). In addition to the above, Elgin Energy delivered 21 solar projects, totalling 230MW, before the UK Government’s Renewables Obligation (ROCs) scheme ended in 2017.

Elgin Energy works with long-term strategic partners to deliver projects to the energization and provides asset management services through their operational life. The company has expanded internationally over the last 14 years with a professional team of engineers, accountants, and lawyers located in its London, Dublin, and Sydney offices. Elgin has a 98% success rate through planning across all its markets.
