  Coordinate the daily operations of the Intensive Care Unit, including planned and unplanned admissions, transfers, discharges, and patient flow.

  Assess patient care needs, workloads, and staff competencies to ensure appropriate staffing levels, skill mix, and safe patient allocations.
  
  
  

  
  


• 
  

  Delegate clinical duties appropriately in accordance with professional, legal, and departmental standards, ensuring staff are competent to perform allocated tasks.
  
  
  

  
  


• 
  

  Provide effective clinical leadership and support high-quality patient care while participating in multidisciplinary ward rounds and acting as a resource for ICU staff.
  
  
  

  
  


• 
  

  Promote quality improvement, clinical audit, risk management, health and safety, accreditation, and evidence-based nursing practice within the ICU.
  
  
  

  
  


• 
  

  Maintain clear communication with the Nurse Manager, promptly escalate incidents and concerns, and ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  
  
  

  
  


• 
  

  Support the induction, mentoring, teaching, competency assessment, and professional development of nurses, students, and support staff in collaboration with the Clinical Facilitator.
  
  
  

  
  


• 
  

  Assist with staff rostering, performance reviews, attendance management, mandatory training, and maintaining appropriate staffing ratios and skill mix.
  
  
  

  
  


• 
  

  Foster a supportive, inclusive, and respectful working environment through effective communication, teamwork, conflict resolution, and positive leadership.
  
  
  

  
  


• 
  

  Maintain professional competence and contribute to nursing research, audits, patient and family education, and the delivery of safe, patient-centred care.
  
  
  
  
  

  
  

Requirements

• 
  

  Hold a valid NMBI registration as a Registered General Nurse and be in good professional standing.
  
  

  
  


• 
  

  Have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Cardiothoracic Intensive Care, preferably within an acute hospital setting.
  
  

  
  


• 
  

  Demonstrate strong clinical teaching and competency assessment skills, with the ability to support the development of nursing staff.
  
  

  
  


• 
  

  Demonstrate effective leadership, professional judgement, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in a complex clinical environment.
  
  

  
  


• 
  

  Have the ability to manage staff attendance and absence effectively while maintaining safe staffing levels.
  
  

  
  


• 
  

  Demonstrate excellent multitasking, prioritisation, planning, organisation, and time management skills.
  
  

  
  


• 
  

  Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating a collaborative, motivated, and innovative approach to patient care.

  Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present information clearly and concisely and support effective change management.

  Demonstrate current and relevant knowledge of specialist cardiothoracic nursing practice, including awareness of developments and best practices within the specialty.
