Job Description - End User Systems Engineer

End-User Systems Engineer

Full Time Permanent (Hybrid)

Bon Secours Hospital Cork is Ireland’s largest private hospital. Established in 1915, the Hospital has 343 beds, employs over 1,000 staff and cares for more than 100,000 patients per annum. It is an acute general hospital providing an extensive range of medical and surgical specialities for both adults and children including Oncology, Cardiology, Orthopaedics, Gastroenterology, General Surgery and Radiotherapy Services.

Bon Secours Hospital Cork is a teaching hospital of UCC thereby making a significant contribution to the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in medicine, nursing and allied health professions. The Hospital is proud to hold many quality accreditations including JCI, INAB and ESMO.

Reporting to the Head of ICT Operations, the End-User Device Engineer will play a critical role in supporting and managing the expanding end-user device environment across the Bon Secours Health System. This is a Hybrid position (office location is Little Island, Co. Cork or another Cork location TBC).

Following the deployment of Meditech Expanse (known internally as BonsConnect), there has been a significant increase in the number and variety of endpoint devices across the organisation, including laptops, Chromebooks, tablets, handheld devices, workstations-on-wheels, and clinical workstations.

The post holder will be responsible for the engineering, configuration, deployment, security, lifecycle management, and Level 2/3 support of these devices, ensuring a secure, compliant, and efficient digital workplace experience for clinical and non-clinical users. This role will be central to the continued success of BonsConnect by ensuring devices are optimised, reliable, and aligned with ICT security and operational standards.

Key duties and Responsibilities:

Section 1 – Departmental Responsibilities

Endpoint & Device Management

  • Manage and support enterprise endpoint platforms including Windows, thin OS, iOS, Android, and ChromeOS devices.
  • Administer Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions using Microsoft Intune.
  • Implement and maintain device provisioning and onboarding processes.
  • Create and manage configuration profiles, compliance policies, and device baselines, including CIS Controls.

Configuration, Deployment & Policy Management

  • Develop, deploy, and maintain endpoint configuration standards using:
    • Group Policy Objects (GPOs)
    • Intune configuration profiles
    • Application deployment policies
  • Ensure consistent endpoint builds across the organisation.
  • Support rollout of clinical and corporate applications required for BonsConnect and other systems.

Office 365 & Modern Workplace Administration

  • Provide administration and support for Microsoft 365 services, including:
    • Licensing and user management
    • Microsoft Teams
    • OneDrive
    • Exchange Online
  • Work collaboratively with ICT colleagues to ensure seamless productivity services across the estate.

Identity, Access & Compliance

  • Support identity and device access management through Azure Active Directory (Entra ID).
  • Configure and manage:
    • Conditional Access policies
    • Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
    • Device compliance controls
  • Ensure endpoint access aligns with organisational security requirements and clinical safety standards.

Endpoint Security

  • Support endpoint security operations using Microsoft Defender for Endpoint.
  • Implement and manage:
    • Antivirus and EDR policies
    • Threat analytics and reporting
    • Endpoint security baselines
  • Ensure all devices meet patching, security, and compliance standards.

Asset & Lifecycle Management

  • Maintain oversight of device lifecycle activities including:
    • Procurement support
    • Hardware/software inventory tracking
    • Asset tagging and reporting
    • Refresh and decommissioning processes
  • Ensure accurate records are maintained for audit and compliance purposes.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

  • Provide Level2/3 support for end-user device issues across clinical and business environments. (Level 1 support provided by Service Desk, Level 1 / 2 support provided by on-site technicians.
  • Troubleshoot complex problems across Windows, iOS, Android, and managed endpoint platforms.
  • Act as an escalation point for Service Desk teams and collaborate to ensure timely resolution of incidents.

Automation & Scripting

  • Develop scripts and automation solutions using PowerShell, and other tools, to improve efficiency, consistency, and device management processes.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

  • Create and maintain high-quality documentation including:
    • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
    • User guides
    • Technical configuration standards
    • Device policies and processes
  • Contribute to the development of the ICT knowledge base and continuous improvement initiatives.

Project Participation

  • Participate in ICT operational and digital transformation projects, particularly those related to BonsConnect, endpoint expansion, and modern workplace delivery.
  • Liaise with third-party vendors and suppliers as required.

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree/Diploma in IT or relevant experience
  • Microsoft MD-102 Endpoint Administrator (or working towards)
  • 5+ years in End-User Computing / Desktop Engineering
  • Strong Intune/Endpoint Manager experience
  • Windows, iOS, Android device support
  • Office 365 administration
  • Azure AD / Conditional Access / MFA experience
  • Endpoint security and patch management
  • Powershell / Automation
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service ability
  • Ability to work under pressure in clinical environments
  • Strong documentation discipline
  • Collaborative, proactive, self-motivated
