Charles Hughes Ltd. (Portwest), a leading manufacturer of outdoor clothing and supplier of Portwest workwear, safety wear and PPE are now seeking applications for the position of Financial Accountant onsite in our Westport office. Portwest is one of the fastest growing workwear companies in the world currently employing over 5,300 staff worldwide, with customer service staff in over 160 countries. Portwest design, manufacture and distribute market leading outdoor clothing and workwear, safety wear and PPE. Charles Hughes Ltd. is part of Portwest group and manages the Irish retail and distribution channels of Portwest supplying over 1000 customers in Ireland and employing 100 people in Ireland.
This is a key role responsible for delivering accurate financial reporting, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and supporting strategic decision-making across the business. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards
Manage general ledger activities, including reconciliations and journal entries
Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, tax regulations, and internal controls
Process payroll on a weekly and monthly basis including pension reporting
Maintain and update the Fixed Asset Register
Provide support to the Accounts Payable function as required
Perform cash sheet reconciliations and monitor cash flow
Liaise with external auditors and assist with audit preparation
Prepare, analyse and present financial reports for the management team
Preparation of Corporation Tax Computations
Support the Financial Controller with projects and ad hoc tasks as assigned
Continuously improve financial processes and reporting systems
Requirements:
Fully qualified accountant (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with 3 years relevant experience
Proven finance experience in a busy environment
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
High level of proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
Excellent IT and communication skills, both written and verbal
