The Law Society is the professional body for the solicitors’ profession. We are inviting applications from suitably qualified persons to join our existing team in the Regulation Department to fill a vacancy arising from internal promotion. This role is reporting to the Head of Financial Regulation.

This is a key role within the regulation department of the Law Society and involves a wide variety of functions and responsibilities relating to the regulation of the solicitor’s profession.

As Financial Regulation Executive you will be responsible for the management of processes and procedures relating to the Reporting Accountants Reports function within the regulation department to ensure compliance by solicitors with their obligation to file an annual reporting accountant’s report.

The role involves overseeing the submission, processing and resolution of any arrears in relation to annual and closing reports whilst also ensuring the function operates efficiently, with issues raised dealt with in a timely manner. The role also includes reporting directly to the Regulation of Practice Committee on arrears of accountants reports.

You will also be response for organising the work of two divisions of the Regulation of Practice Committee which committee deals, inter alia, with matters arising under the Solicitors Accounts Regulations.

Working with a team of professional accountants, solicitors and regulatory executives, the role will involve, communication relating to investigations of solicitors practices on behalf of the committee, compiling the agenda for meetings of the committee, attending meetings of the committee. You will be assisted by an experienced team of support staff.

The Law Society operates a hybrid working system which means that whilst you will be expected to be in attendance at the Law Society premises for meetings of the committee, and during busy periods, you will be able to work from home from time to time.

Knowledge & Skills

• Experience of working in a regulatory organization, in particular a quasi-judicial environment, 


• Familiarity with regulatory issues relating to the solicitor’s profession, in particular the Solicitors Accounts Regulations would be an advantage. Reporting to the Head of Financial Regulation.,


• Excellent communication skills.


• Familiarity with information technology.


• Sound judgement and good interpersonal skills are essential.
