Job Description - Ground Worker


Role Purpose


The Ground Worker will assist with a range of construction, maintenance, and improvement projects across the Glenmore Estate. This includes supporting new build projects such as staff accommodation, sheds, and barns, as well as renovation and repair works to existing estate buildings and cottages. The role will involve preparing and maintaining grounds, operating machinery and tools, and ensuring that all works are carried out safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.


 


Construction and Groundworks



  • Prepare sites for new builds and renovation projects, including excavation, levelling, drainage, and foundations.

  • Carry out concreting, kerbing, block laying, paving, and other general groundwork activities.

  • Assist with the erection of sheds, barns, and agricultural structures.

  • Support trades such as builders, joiners, and electricians by preparing work areas and assisting with materials handling.

  • Install and maintain access roads, pathways, and service routes as required across the estate.


 


Maintenance and Repairs



  • Carry out repairs and improvements to existing estate cottages, outbuildings, and farm infrastructure.

  • Support landscaping, fencing, and drainage works to maintain estate standards.

  • Assist with ground reinstatement following maintenance or construction projects.

  • Undertake minor demolition, clearance, and site tidy-up tasks.


 


Machinery and Equipment



  • Safely operate machinery and hand tools associated with groundworks, such as diggers, dumpers, compactors, and saws.

  • Conduct basic maintenance and daily checks on tools and machinery.

  • Report defects, damage, or maintenance requirements promptly to the Estate Manager or Workshop team.


 


Health, Safety & Environmental



  • Follow all site safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE at all times.

  • Maintain tidy, organised, and safe working areas.

  • Ensure works are completed in accordance with health, safety, and environmental standards.

  • Assist in identifying hazards and suggesting improvements to safe working practices.


 


Teamwork and Communication



  • Work as part of a small team under the direction of the Estate Manager or Site Supervisor.

  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and other estate departments.

  • Support the delivery of projects to agreed timelines and quality standards.


 


Person Specification


Essential



  • Previous experience in groundworks, construction, or general building maintenance.

  • Skilled in concreting, drainage, kerbing, and other typical groundworker tasks.

  • Competent in the safe use of relevant tools and plant equipment.

  • Good awareness of site health and safety standards.

  • Reliable, hardworking, and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

  • Full UK driving licence.


Desirable



  • Experience working on estates, farms, or rural construction projects.

  • CSCS card or equivalent qualification.

  • Machinery operation certification (e.g. dumper, mini-digger).

  • Basic joinery, masonry, or fencing skills.
