About the Position

RenaissanceRe is seeking a senior and forward-looking VP, IT Manager – Security Architecture to build, formalize, and lead our Security Architecture function. We are looking for a strategic leader to design the blueprint for this function and embed it into the fabric of our global operations.

This role goes beyond day‑to‑day delivery and focuses on establishing and scaling a sustainable Security Architecture capability. You will use your experience to help shape and evolve how Security Architecture operates at RenaissanceRe, ensuring that security is not an afterthought but a core component of every infrastructure and application lifecycle. 

Key Relationships

Reports to: SVP, Chief Information Security Officer

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Design & Roadmap: Architect and launch the formal Security Architecture function, defining its mission, operational framework, and long-term roadmap.
  • Security by Design: Partner with software engineering to move beyond ad-hoc support and establish a "Security by Design" culture, embedding automated security gates into the SDLC.
  • Infrastructure Evolution: Lead the design of resilient, next-generation IT infrastructure, moving from reactive fixes to proactive, architected security models.
  • Policy & Standard Stewardship: Lead the development and maintenance of clear security standards, policies, and reference architectures.
  • Cross-Functional Integration: Act as the primary bridge between security and technical functions to align technical security controls with business growth and regulatory requirements.
  • Solution Oversight: Provide oversight and guidance on the deployment of security solutions, ensuring they are integrated, scalable, and meet the highest compliance standards.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Proven Track Record: Extensive experience in cybersecurity with a demonstrated ability to design and implement security programs or functions from scratch.
  • Entrepreneurial Mindset: Comfortable working in evolving environments, partnering with others to establish clear structures and sustainable ways of working.
  • Technical Depth: Strong expertise in network security, cloud architecture (Azure/AWS), and secure software development practices. Experience contributing to or implementing Zero Trust approaches is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with Emerging Risks: Experience in analyzing the risks of AI and defining the appropriate controls to mitigate them.
  • Pragmatic Balance: A unique ability to balance rigorous security controls with the operational needs and velocity of a fast-moving business.
  • Influential Leadership: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and champion security architecture through partnership, communication, and shared accountability across the organization.
  • Collaborative Spirit: A team player who can lead through influence and collaboration rather than just authority.
