Job Description - Pharma Year Head

Job Title:         Year Head - MSPBM Programme (and embedded awards)


Reporting to :   Programme Director & Head of Academic Programmes, Cork
Location :          Griffith College Cork, Wellington Road
Job Type:         
Part time (60% contract) Initially, 11-month fixed term contract





Job Summary:



The Griffith Business School and Griffith College Cork has been delivering its MSc. in Pharmaceutical Business Management in its Cork campus since 2018. We are seeking to recruit a strong leader to join us as a Year Head within the Faculty, which will assist the Programme Director in the continued delivery of this programme (and embedded awards) to a very high standard.


The primary role of the Year Head is to facilitate and oversee:



  • The professional delivery of programmes

  • The effective and equitable assessment of learners with comprehensive feedback for academic support and development

  • Effective communication with faculty members, both full-time and part-time

  • Effective communication between faculty and learners

  • Assist in the resolution of problems raised by learners and/or lecturers

  • Participate in Open Evenings and other college promotional events 


 


The person appointed will have a proven record of academic leadership, in the management of higher education programmes, at level 9. The selected candidate will make a strong contribution to the management of the Faculty whilst supporting learners for the duration of their studies in the Graduate Business School.




Job Responsibilities:


 


Programme Management



  • Assist in the recruitment of suitably qualified programme lecturers.

  • Assisting in the management of the delivery of the programme as prescribed by QQI, the Governing Body and the College’s Quality Assurance Procedures.

  • Liaise with lecturers in relation to end of semester module reports and review with PD.

  • Assist in the review of the approved programme schedule for the academic year.

  • Maintain the academic integrity of the programmes.

  • Assist the PD in reviewing and planning of lecturer delivery plans and exams in Cork campus.

  • Assist in maintaining  the module integrity and consistency between day and evening programmes where relevant.

  • Advise lecturers of support facilities to enhance performance.

  • Organise additional tutorials/lectures where appropriate in consultation with PD.

  • Responsible for co-ordination of programme committee meetings.

  • Responsible for oversight of learner and lecturer feedback of assigned programme and report to PD any issues.

  • Assist PD in the preparation of Annual Programme Review Report.

  • Work proactively in improving existing programmes.

  • Participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of academic quality assurance policies.



Faculty/Admin




  • Be available during Learner contact hours to discuss performance, problems, complaints and advise on remedial action.

  • Process LRAFS and submit to FA.

  • Attend weekly faculty meeting and weekly one-one meetings with FA.

  • Review and check Examinations timetables and confirm same with PD.

  • Attend the Exam Boards with the PD

  • Contribute to faculty planning (e.g. new programme development/review etc.).

  • Assist in the timely preparation of semester timetables.

  • Retain summary information on exam module reviews and lecturer assessments.

  • Graduation duties: attend ceremonies and assist where necessary.

  • Carry out assessment, monitoring and evaluation of examination and coursework and provide academic guidance and consultative support to learners.

  • Assist PD in ensuring that student queries are dealt with in a timely manner.

  • Assist PD in coordinating internal moderation all assessments.

  • Carry out registration checks to ensure learners are properly registered.

  • Monitor attendance and follow up with learners who are persistently absent

  • Assist in the preparation of assignment due date grid.



Teaching 



  • Lecture hours on assigned modules within the School and other assigned areas if required.

  • The role requires at least 6 hours teaching per week per semester.

  • Provide a professional support to learners in their learning activities.

  • Attend meetings and participate in committees appropriate to assigned programmes.

  • Any other duties that fall within the employee’s capabilities.


 


Minimum Education/ Experience Requirements:



  • Relevant qualification, i.e. must hold a minimum of Master level or equivalent

  • Knowledge and practical experience of a relevant subject area.

  • Experience in higher education programme management. 

  • Lecturing experience.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Good time management and organisation skills.

  • Enthusiasm and commitment to their subject area.

  • Must be legally entitled to work full time in Ireland for any employer.
