Contract: Full Time/Fixed Term
Tyndall National Institute is an international thought-leader in research in integrated/miniaturized power technology platforms for next generation electronics systems for smart phones, portable computing and energy for the Internet of Things (IoT). Our research on integrated magnetics (on silicon, embedded in PCB) and PMIC (Power Management ICs) has won international awards, has been licensed to major multinationals and has recently been incorporated into mass produced portable computing equipment.
Our research excellence and industry collaborations are evidenced through our leadership in EU projects such as ENABLES () and Energy ECS (), the SFI CONNECT Research Centre CONNECT (), co-founding of the International EnerHarv Workshop () and the founding of PwrSoc, the IEEE/PSMA International Workshop on Power Supply on Chip (), contributions to many international technology roadmaps (IEEEE HIR, IEEE IRDS, iNEMI, ECS-SRIA, PSMA PTR,) and links with US-based industry association PSMA ().
Tyndall offers this unique and exciting opportunity for a Principal Researcher in Integrated Power Electronics for our ICT4EE (ICT for Energy Efficiency) and Magnetics Groups . We seek an experienced technical leader to drive the integration of power electronics components and circuits with miniaturized magnetics-based technology platforms such as:
Leveraging a strong power electronics circuit pedigree , the position will present the successful candidate with a unique opportunity to foster and drive disruptive inter-disciplinary research collaborations with experts in microelectronics, magnetics, interconnect and packaging and associated thermomechanical issues to create integrated power solutions.
For IoT applications , the position presents the opportunity to address the challenge of powering the energy 1 trillion sensor economy, minimizing power consumption and exploiting micro-power energy harvesting to extend wireless sensor node (WSN) battery life.
PCB-embedded and on-silicon miniaturization and optimization platforms will also be developed for integrated power delivery in portable electronics, computing and data-centre server applications. Both research programmes will involve strategic collaborations with our Silicon design centre
If successful, you will become a key member of Tyndall’s research leadership team further building our international profile in “power IoT” & “integrated magnetics”.
