Job Description - Programme Director


Job Title: Programme Director in the Faculty of Computing Science


Reporting to: Head of Faculty of Computing Science


Location: Dublin main campus on South Circular Road


Job Type: Full-Time / Permanent (subject to 6 months probation)



Job Summary:


 


The Programme Director (PD) reports to the Head of Faculty of Computing Science and laisses with relevant Year Heads, lecturers, guest lectures and dissertation supervisors within the faculty. The PD ensures that an excellent service is provided to all those who interact with the faculty: students and staff alike.


Job Responsibilities:



General:



  • Providing academic leadership through helping to maintain and enhance excellence in teaching within the faculty

  • Work pro-actively in improving existing courses and programmes

  • Contribute to the design and development of new courses and programmes

  • Meet students, lecturing staff and dissertation supervisors on a regular basis and address concerns in a timely manner

  • Provide support and supervision to Faculty lecturers

  • Provide assistance to students as required in a timely manner

  • Participate in internal departmental / multi-disciplinary committees and external meetings as required

  • Adhere to exam procedures and deadlines

  • Be committed to educational quality and customer service

  • Work effectively as part of an integrated team in the Computing Faculty


Course Content:



  • Manage the development and delivery of approved course syllabi as validated

  • Review courses/modules on an annual basis to ensure the ongoing integrity of programmes

  • Maintain the academic integrity of the courses


Teaching:



  • Teaching as required


Students:



  • Meet with the students to discuss performance, problems and complaints and advise on remedial action

  • Review student queries re: module(s) results in examinations


Administration:



  • Provide Annual Course Review to the Head of Faculty

  • Work with the Office Manager/Administrator to create timetables for each course within the College’s timetabling system

  • Attend Exam Board meetings

  • Liaise with Admissions and International Office re: new entrants and participate in marketing events

  • Liaise with Year Heads with regard to maintaining and monitoring student attendance record.

  • Assist Head of Faculty with regard to the performance management of relevant teaching staff

  • Work with the relevant staff in the faculty so that administrative and academic deadlines are met


Minimum Education/ Experience Requirements:



Overall, the successful candidates will be expected to make a significant contribution to the teaching and academic management profile of the faculty and:



  • Possess a Level 9 postgraduate qualification in Computing Science and at least one year of lecturing experience for computer science programmes in a higher education institution, or is undertaking a Level 9 postgraduate qualification in Computing Science and possess at least 5 years of lecturing experience for computer science programmes in a higher education institution.

  • Be highly organised with meticulous attention to detail.

  • Have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Be committed to educational quality and customer service.

  • Willing to work effectively as part of an integrated team in the Computing Faculty.

  • Hold a Teaching and Learning qualification, if not, the applicant will be required to undertake the College's level 9 Training & Education programme on appointment.

  • Must be legally entitled to work full time in Ireland for any employer.
