Job Description - Senior Managing Counsel Head of Legal Ireland
A highly experienced attorney that is viewed as a Legal practice area expert. Directly manages one or more legal professionals, motivating and providing direction as needed, and ensuring the achievement of practice/group goals. As a leader within the Legal Department, regularly advises senior management and contributes to strategic planning for the department.Responsible for leading individuals or a small team and managing the resources necessary to support his/her practice and/or functional area. Serves as an advisor to external and internal stakeholders, including senior management, on issues affecting BNY Mellon.Possesses thorough understanding of the products and services of the practice and/or functional area for which he or she is responsible. Directly manages matter work in a practice area. Maintains or manages outside counsel relationships. Serves as a trusted internal resource capable of using knowledge about their line of business/function and interdependent business(es)/functions of BNY Mellon's businesses, products, services, and/or strategies to articulate and advance legal positions.Adept at clearly communicating and interacting with individuals on different levels both internal and external to the Legal Department, including Senior level Counsels, Heads of Businesses, and Outside Counsel.Conducts sophisticated analyses of legal and business problems and develops sound legal strategies that balance firm interests with legal risks. Leads others in solving complex issues and identifying innovative solutions, related to the practice/functional area, and/or country/region supported.Has significant independent legal management oversight for a practice area, business area or country/region including financial and human resources management.Provision of advice and counsel and legal strategies extends to assigned businesses and/or practice area, but will contribute to the execution of other team or area objectives. Advice may have a direct impact on the internal client's, and ultimately the Company's overall financial position.Modified based upon local regulations/requirements.Advanced Legal Degree usually required. License to practice in local jurisdiction usually required. In some jurisdictions, may not require licensure or certification for placement in the role,, in others, licensure/certification is required. In some cases, role will require oversight of attorneys and legal work outside their country of licensure.11-12 years minimum of total experience as a qualified attorney within the financial services industry, with 1-3 years of management experience, preferred..
