We are currently seeking a Senior Grade Medical Scientist â Biochemistry (FTC) for a leading hospital in Dublin. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a wide range of diagnostic laboratory tests within the Biochemistry department, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and the highest standards of patient care.
Responsibilities
Manage the day-to-day operations of the Biochemistry Laboratory, including routine and urgent sample processing, staff rostering, testing, and budgetary activities.
Support the implementation of operational procedures and best-practice standards to ensure effective and efficient use of laboratory resources.
Implement and maintain a patient-centred quality management programme, including performance monitoring, auditing, and client satisfaction activities.
Ensure compliance with JCI, INAB, and ISO 15189 accreditation standards, including internal and external quality control and continuous laboratory improvement.
Prioritise and coordinate multiple testing requirements during busy periods while maintaining accuracy, efficiency, and timely service delivery.
Participate in the introduction, verification, optimisation, and repatriation of laboratory tests, as well as the evaluation of new equipment, technologies, consumables, and research projects.
Support staff management and development through effective communication, training, professional development, and participation in team activities.
Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and hospital policies, including the prevention, reporting, and management of laboratory accidents, incidents, complaints, and defects.
Contribute to the development and optimisation of laboratory information systems, including the collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of data relating to projects, staffing, activity, and expenditure.
Participate in performance reviews, quality improvement initiatives, professional development, and other duties as required, demonstrating flexibility to meet the changing needs of the laboratory service.
Minimum of 3 yearsâ experience in Biochemistry, with relevant post-qualification experience desirable.
Experience in protein electrophoresis is desirable.
Ability to coordinate effectively with laboratory management and other hospital departments to ensure the delivery of a high-quality laboratory service.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, teamwork, and professional skills, with a dedicated and positive approach to work.
Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and a good understanding of modern laboratory services and scientific methods.
Knowledge of relevant legislation, health and safety requirements, quality standards, and laboratory accreditation criteria.
Ability to adapt to changes within the healthcare environment, work collaboratively as part of a team, and understand the relationship between laboratory services and other hospital departments.
