Job Description - Staff Nurse – Theatre (Perioperative, Orthopaedic)


RecruitNet International Ltd specialises in healthcare recruitment for both domestic and overseas candidates across hospitals, nursing homes, home care, and community care.

We are urgently seeking a Registered Staff Nurse – Theatre Services (Orthopaedics) for a hospital in Westmeath, Ireland.

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

Responsibilities:




  • Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care to orthopaedic patients



  • Prepare and support patients before and after orthopaedic procedures



  • Monitor patients’ clinical condition and respond appropriately to changes



  • Assist consultants and theatre teams during orthopaedic procedures where required



  • Maintain accurate nursing documentation and patient records



  • Ensure infection prevention and control standards are maintained



  • Promote patient dignity, safety, and comfort at all times



  • Participate in discharge planning and patient education



  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams



  • Adhere to hospital policies, NMBI guidelines, and best practice standards











Requirements




  • Registered, or eligible for registration, with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) in the relevant division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives.



  • Minimum of 3 years' post-registration nursing experience, including at least 1 year in perioperative nursing or a related specialty.



  • Demonstrated clinical experience in scrub, anaesthetic, recovery, or a combination of perioperative roles, with exposure to both elective and emergency surgical procedures.



  • Strong clinical, organisational, and administrative skills with the ability to deliver safe, effective, and evidence-based perioperative care.



  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary theatre team.



  • Proven commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and maintaining professional competence through ongoing education and training.



  • Experience using electronic health records (EHRs), theatre management systems, and clinical documentation platforms is desirable.



  • Knowledge of clinical governance, infection prevention and control, patient safety standards, and participation in quality improvement initiatives.



  • Ability to provide compassionate, patient-centred care while maintaining patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality throughout the perioperative journey.



  • Must maintain annual NMBI registration, possess good character and health, and demonstrate professionalism, accountability, adaptability, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced theatre environment.
