Job Description - Pipe Fitter Apprentice Year 1


The Role



  • Due to continuous growth within the company, Murphy Ireland are currently looking for Apprentice Pipefitter(s) to join and contribute towards some new and exciting projects.

  • Please note that travel is required


 


Key Responsibilities



  • Assist in the fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair of high- and low-pressure piping systems.

  • Support experienced pipefitters in measuring, cutting, prepping, threading, and assembly of pipe fabrications of varying sizes (from small-bore to large-diameter systems).

  • Help install piping systems that carry liquids, gases, and other materials in accordance with technical drawings and specifications.

  • Participate in welding, fabrication, and fitting activities under supervision.

  • Learn to interpret and follow engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, and isometric diagrams.

  • Use and maintain a range of hand tools, power tools, and specialised pipefitting equipment safely and effectively.

  • Assist in testing, inspecting, and troubleshooting piping systems to identify faults or leaks.

  • Support routine preventative maintenance activities to ensure system reliability and safety.

  • Maintain a high level of Health and Safety which includes the proper use of PPE.

  • Adhere to work instructions and procedures.

  • Meet daily, weekly and monthly targets.

  • Keep site and fabshop clean and safe to operate in.


 


 


Key Requirements


Qualifications & Skills:



  • Must be eligible to register as a pipefitting apprentice with SOLAS 

    • The minimum educational requirements are:

      • Grade D in five subjects in the Department of Education & Skills Junior Certificate Examination or an approved equivalent, or 2.

      • The successful completion of an approved Pre-Apprenticeship course or 3.

      • Three years’ work experience gained over sixteen years of age in a relevant designated industrial activity as SOLAS shall deem acceptable.







  • Safe Pass, Manual Handling and Abrasive Wheels

  • Leaving Certificate with O6 – O1 in Maths (desirable but not required). Physics and technical drawing is beneficial

  • Previous construction experience is beneficial

  • Any additional tickets/training is beneficial

  • Full Driving Licence is required

  • Understanding Health and Safety compliance

Schedule:



  • Monday to Friday, weekend work if required

  • Work Location: In person both in Newbridge or on site as required by line manager
