Trading Operations Intern

The Position

ElectroRoute is seeking a curious, solutions-driven intern to join our Trading Operations team. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a growing team focused on trading energy for the renewables sector.

You will participate in the ElectroRoute Academy programme, which has trained over 40 ambitious trainees to become highly skilled energy traders. Over the course of the internship, you will receive structured and on-the-job training across topics including:

• Fundamentals of the power system and wholesale energy markets


• Trading and optimising renewable and battery plant


• Interpreting meteorological data and weather patterns


• Forming trading strategies


• ElectroRoute’s trading systems, databases and trading tools


• Energy risk management, regulatory and compliance requirements

You will also receive performance development guidance and be considered for future opportunities. Many of our former interns have built successful careers within ElectroRoute.

The Role

• Perform market analysis on Irish and GB power markets to identify trends and opportunities


• Build and maintain analysis tools in Python and/or Excel


• Retrieve and process time-series data from databases (SQL) for reporting and analytics


• Support trading KPI reporting and performance tracking


• Help optimise trading decisions for renewable and battery assets


• Communicate findings clearly through concise presentations and written summaries


• Assist with onboarding new assets and contracts into trading and reporting workflows

Role Requirements

The Successful Candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:

• Excellent analytical, numeric and problem-solving skills


• Coding experience in Python (or another programming language with ability to transition to Python quickly)


• Proficiency with Databases and SQL for extracting and manipulating time-series data


• Basic understanding of electricity markets, preferably SEM and GB


• Basic understanding of renewable energy and its role in power markets


• Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills


• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently on own initiative, using good judgement and discretion

In addition, the following would be an advantage:

• Experience with forecasting methods, time-series analysis, or statistical modelling


• Knowledge of weather patterns/systems and weather-driven modelling for power markets


• Experience creating data visualizations and clear presentations (e.g., Plotly, Matplotlib, Power BI)
