The Opportunity 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic qualified finance professional to join The Wheel’s team. This role comes about due to a maternity leave and will support the internal finance operations of The Wheel and provide support to members of The Wheel, and the wider Community and Voluntary sector.  

The post holder will work closely with the Finance & Operations team and the wider staff team.

The successful candidate will maintain a positive and responsive attitude towards collaborative working that encourages the best from, and supports the efforts of, others.

 

Role & Responsibilities

  • Maintain effective financial controls and systems across the organisation
  • Implement all financial policies across the organisation
  • Process monthly journals and support the compilation of the management accounts on a monthly basis 
  • Reconcile the bank through our accounts system, Xero, and reconcile all accounts monthly
  • Maintain the accounts payable and receivable functions 
  • Process and approve payments through the organisation’s bank account
  • Manage grants and funding streams for the organisation, tracking payments in and due dates including preparing financial returns to external funders
  • Assist with the annual budgetary process and the annual audit and financial statements preparation through SORP
  • Assist with the processing of salaries 

 

Person Specification

Essential Experience & Skills:

  • Qualified accountant or similar 
  • At least three years’ experience in a similar finance role
  • Experience of finance software (Xero, in particular, is desirable but not essential)
  • A high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential to successfully carry out the role
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills
  • Ability to prioritise and manage time according to deadlines

 

Desirable Experience & Skills: 

  • Experience of management and being responsible for an organisation’s finances 
  • Experience in the non-profit sector 
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Capable of working as a team player, be highly motivated, enthusiastic and capable of using their initiative
  • Fluency in English (oral and written) along with excellent written communication skills
  • Commitment to, and understanding of, working within a voluntary organisation in an inclusive manner.

 

Terms and Conditions

This is a part-time, temporary position with The Wheel. The role will likely be undertaken over two or three days in the week (from Monday to Thursday). Mornings are preferred, though times are flexible outside of lunch hour (1-2pm).

The Wheel is currently operating a Hybrid Working Pilot and hybrid working is available to all employees.  With this role, there will be an opportunity to do most work out of the office, but attendance will be required approximately 2 to 3 times a month.  

The Wheel has a salary-band framework. The annual gross salary for this role will be at the midpoint of the range for the Manager level posts within the Wheel. The current range is €46,098-€62,368. The amount will depend on the knowledge and experience of the person who occupies the role. This contract is for a 10-hour week and salary is payable pro rata and monthly in arrears. 

 

Other benefits include:

  • A 6% employers contribution to a company contributory pension scheme (subject to a 4% employee contribution)

  • Closure of the office on Good Friday, Christmas Eve and the Christmas / New Year period which comes additional to annual leave entitlement
