Job Summary:

Applications are invited for a part time lecturing role in the Faculty of Design. The modules are 5 ECTS credit modules from the Faculty of Designs BA programmes (Level 7) & (Level 8) in Graphic Communication Design, in semester one (12 teaching weeks).

We are looking for a lecturer who is enthusiastic and passionate.  We are looking for someone who not only has expertise in graphic design, and a passion for web design but also has a strong desire to share their knowledge with future designers.

PURPOSE: 

The primary focus of this post will be to play an active role in the academic direction of your module including teaching, assessment and administration.

Required Qualifications

Candidates will be expected to have a Level 9 Qualification or equivalent in Web Design or Visual Communications or in a cognate design discipline; proven teaching excellence and ability to support curriculum development; demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills; excellent interpersonal skills; and the ability to build relations and to work collaboratively.  Proficiency in Figma, Web flow, Miro, Adobe Creative CC, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator. Excellent English and presentation skills are necessary. Candidates must have professional design experience, preferably in an agency, in-house design, or freelance capacity.

Membership of a Professional body and any record of research, scholarship and publications are an advantage.

• To design, develop and produce learning and teaching material and deliver the module.


• Lecturers will ensure the efficient and effective delivery of teaching programmes in accordance with the College strategy, policy and procedures, contribute to activities which influence leading edge practice and may also undertake research activity.


• Have experience of working in a positive, flexible manner.


• Have experience of openly exchanging information and supporting colleagues.

Web Design (Semester 1, Level 7, Level 8, 5 ECTS) Descriptor:

This module equips learners with the skills to achieve creative design solutions by formulating a problem-solving approach and to successfully represent their vision through basic code. A strong foundation in the Principals of Web Design Learners work through project briefs which introduce various stages of design and development. Studio practice/Lab, using Web flow and Figma.

This module explores the web as a channel of communication, looking at technology, design, business and cultural issues. Through a range of practical assignments, learners engage with different types of web applications and develop practical skills used for the design and management of online communication.

Advanced Web Design (Semester 1, Level 7, Level 8, 5 ECTS) Descriptor:

This module builds on the design skills and basic software knowledge that the learners have gained in Web Design 1 and the Interaction Design modules. It aims to advance the learners’ skills and knowledge in accessibility, responsive design, using web frameworks such as Bootstrap and Foundation. This module aims to equip learners with the skills to achieve creative web design solutions by formulating a problem-solving approach and to successfully represent their vision. Learners are provided with skills in web design, marketing and digital media design practice. Through practical tasks and critical exploration of the relationship between search engine optimisation (SEO), marketing, design concept and software capabilities, learners extend their understanding of the constraints of particular web design practices and ways in which they drive design

Mode:                  Full Time (Day) – Web Design Every Tuesday morning from 10-1pm and

                              Advanced Web Design Tuesday afternoon from 2-5pm.

                              Contact Hours: 36 hours per module.

Guidelines for Mock Lecture

As part of the interview process, candidates are required to give a 5 – 10 minute mock lecture, regarding the interview panel as students.
The lecture should cover an item (or items) of the candidate’s choice from an existing (or proposed) course offered by the Faculty or Department.
The candidate is free to use whatever medium and teaching aids are appropriate, including laptop and projector, but is encouraged to use new technology.
The lecture should not be the first lecture in a course, nor should it be an overview of a course.
The lecture will focus on explaining a particular aspect of the course to students who are unfamiliar with the topic.
The lecturer should begin by outlining any previous information that the students are expected to know (e.g. “I’m assuming you know how to ...... which we covered last week”).
Questions will be asked of the lecturer, either during or after the lecture.
